Lima The Heart of Peru





Lima is the capital of Peru. It is also one of the largest cities of Peru. The city is located between the valleys of Chillion, Lurin and Rimac rivers to the central coastal part of Peru. The valley overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The population of Lima is about 9 million. The capital is considered to be the most populated city amongst all in the country of Peru. It is also the fourth largest among the American countries. Lima houses some of the ancient higher education institutions which were found during the Spanish regime in the country. The National University of San Marcos is one of the oldest functioning universities in Americas. A Trip to Lima is a life time experience by any tourists. There are many tourists coming from across the globe to explore this city.


The city of Lima has lots to be explored while on a vacation. Almost one third of the population of Lima has been coming from the Spanish colonial city and hence it has become more like a Los Angeles metropolitan city. The city has all types of facilities and amenities which all the western countries have and the process of globalization is also happening in full force in this city. Hence it is fun to watch various historic places during your vacation to Lima. It is advisable to have a Lima travel guide with you so that you can enjoy all the attractions of the city.


The tourist can start with the historic city center. This historic city center is also named by the UNESCO as the World Heritage site. When you land in Peru especially in Lima you shall come to know the importance of plazas. There are two important plazas housed in the city which are of ancient times. The Plaza del Armas and Plaza San martin are the most beautiful plazas in Lima which has brilliantly carved balconies. This is also the home to many of the historic buildings including the Cathedral and the Presidential Palace. These plazas are also connected with pedestrian shopping centers and thus you can easily go around places and also get a chance to visit all the historic homes in Lima.


When you go towards the coastal area the place worth visiting is the ruins of Huaca Pucllana. This dates back to the first century in the Lima civilization. These ruins are just the opposite of the Incan ruins which are found in the Andes. The next attraction is the Park of Love where one can find the iconic statue of Victor Deflin. There is a western style mall which is built on the sides of the cliffs which looks over the Pacific Ocean. One can enjoy a sumptuous lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Soon after lunch one can head towards the art district of Barranco. There are many private art galleries at this place where the artists display their work.


Summary – Lima is the most populated city of Peru besides being the capital of the country. The city is well developed and gives a stiff competition to the western countries.
