Christmas shopping may no longer be a trip to our local department store, as more of us look to make our Christmas shopping an event. Perhaps even an overnight hotel stay?
Making Christmas shopping an exciting trip away can take away the stress and inject some excitement into something that can be seen as a chore. What better place to find every present you need and find the perfect hotel, than in the capital of shopping, London?
Oxford Street in particular has lots to offer: shops, boutiques, hotels, theatres and eateries. The buzz of Oxford Street is sure to put you in Christmas spirit as the top department stores decorate their exteriors extravagantly around Christmas time.
Events around Christmas include the Oxford Street Christmas light switch on, which happens in November every year. Completing your Christmas Shopping early means you can watch the lights being switched on; it can also mean you pay as little as £59 per night for a hotel room. If you choose to travel close to Christmas day, the prices for hotels of course, will increase.
There is plenty of time to be up and ready to go shopping when you get there, as most shops on Oxford Street open at around 10 a.m. and close around 7 p.m. Of course, these times alter over the Christmas period, which will mean longer shopping time for all!
If you want a break from a hard day of shopping, there are lots of eateries on Oxford Street, particularly in Market Place and St. Christopherís Place, where you will find an array of bars and restaurants.
And after a cold winterís day, you can rest assured knowing you are staying in comfort as there are plenty of three star hotels at reasonable, budget prices. Staying on Oxford Street is not a budget-friendly option, so staying outside the area is the best option when working on a budget.
One night in Victoria, London, in December, for two adults costs around £62 for a three star hotel. This location is ideal, as it is situated nearby some of Londonís top attractions, including Buckingham Palace, The London Eye and the Victoria Shopping Centre.
If youíre looking for more luxury, you donít have to pay much more. In fact, a four star hotel on Seething Lane, offering contemporary and sophisticated hotel accommodation, can cost little as £67 per night.
If you are not familiar with London and you are worried about finding your way about, using the tube is the easiest option. You are never far from a train or tube station, and getting yourself a map of the underground makes travelling around London easier than you would think. If you are going out in the evening, perhaps to the theatre or to a bar and restaurant, you are never far from a black cab to get you home, or if you prefer, you can still use the tube at night.
Oxford Street will be the place to be this Christmas so make sure you consider it as an option this year.
