It has got its name from an Italian city named Siracusa of Sicily. The city of Syracuse has a very rich history as it played a very important role in social movements and general innovations. It was the first city to establish the very first democracy in North America and it was also the first city to rais voice against slavery and women suffrage in the country. Syracuse University was established in the year 1870 that later became the prominent feature of the city and played a very important role in development.
