Wind Energy Systems for the Home

Is it possible to power a home using wind energy?

In theory it is possible to become energy self-sufficient relying on purely wind energy to power your home, but in practise the situation is somewhat different. You may find that unless you have a small house, a large patch of land and forgiving neighbors it is very unlikely that you will become self sufficient off the back of wind energy alone. Most houses would take up to a dozen wind turbines to power their house but by combining wind energy with solar power you are greatly increasing your chances of becoming energy self sufficient.

There's no avoiding the fact that as a whole, people are depleting the already limited stock of fossil fuels that are available to us and we have to act now before things get much worse. By combining two wind turbines and full PV tiles on your roof (it's really not that much more expensive than having your roof tiled normally) you will undoubtedly be able to create enough energy to power your home and maybe have a little bit left over.

Grid tie systems.

Grid tie systems are a vital part of any energy self sufficient home; as we ll as having all the right equipment to produce, generate and convert your power you should also ensure that you get a grid tie system. This enables you to sell back surplus power to the grid. A grid tie system means that during those times of year when you produce more energy that you need you can sell it back but it also means for the wintry times of year when you may not be producing enough solar power you can buy power back from the grid. This means you are no longer a burden on the stock of fossil fuels.

Make a lot, use a little, make a little.

If you're really lucky and live in an area with get high wind and bright sunshine it might be the case that you will provide more energy over the space of a year than you actually use. In this case the energy you sell back to the grid will provide you with a small profit. After the space of a few years you could find that your wind turbines and your solar panels have already paid for themselves.

Neighbors.

Wind turbines can make quite a noise and anything but the very smallest wil l become an eye sore. You need to make sure that your neighbors don't mind the noise or the view and you may bee best trying to get them to do the same kind of thing.

An Introduction to Wind Energy
About wind energy? Put simply, wind energy is energy derived from the wind. By using wind turbines we are able to harness the power of the wind and convert it into electricity for use in homes, schools, businesses and any other establishments that require electricity. Originally it was thought inconceivable that we would be able to use wind turbines for anything other than milling flour but this theory has been proven to be very wrong. Our search for renewable sources of energy has led us...

Hydro Energy for the Home
Can I really use hydro energy to power my home? There are really very few people who would be able to take advantage of hydropower in their homes. A small stream simply isn't going to be big enough to power even a micro hydro energy system but if you happen to be one of the very lucky few who have a reasonable size stream or waterway of any sort running through your land then hydro power is an excellent form of power and you should consider looking into it. It has one big advantage over any...

An Introduction to Alternative Energy
What are fossil fuels? Essentially there are three fossil fuel sources available to the world but each of them are dwindling. The most abundant is coal; coal is widely used and inexpensively extracted. As such, we have come to rely exceptionally heavily on coal and while there is still quite a large amount of coal left it is estimated that America's remaining coal will sustain the country for the next 200 too 300 years but it is by no means a perfectly clean form of power. The biggest...

An Introduction to Hydro Energy
What is hydro energy? Fossil fuel reserves have become seriously depleted but conversely our energy use is increasing year on year, our fossil fuel use is now far from being sustainable. Fossil fuels are also responsible for global warming because of the carbon dioxide that is produced with the use of coal power stations and other fossil fuel power stations. In order to stop a further decline in the environment and to replace non-renewable energy many different alternative power sources are...

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Alternative Energy
It is essential that we find affordable and workable sources of alternative energy before the world completely consumes the already limited stock of fossil fuels. Many countries have started to introduce renewable energy schemes and more still have invested money into researching and even producing different sources of alternative energy. While it is essential that we become less reliant or not reliant at all on fossil fuels, many forms of alternative energy have their disadvantages as well...

How Does Solar Power Work
The basics of solar power. Solar power is probably the cleanest, most viable form of renewable energy available and it can be used in several forms to help power your house. Many gardens now use solar lights or solar garden water features. The availability and wide use of solar power in gardens shows exactly how versatile it is as a source of energy. The technology and the systems are becoming smaller, more compact and better looking than when they were first created and used. Early examples...

About solar energy panels
What is a solar energy panel? A solar energy panel collects energy from the sunlight and converts it into direct current (DC) electricity. Two oppositely charged slices of silicon are placed together below a piece of glass and as the protons in the sunlight knock the negatively charged neutrons away from the silicon the electric field created by the two adjoining pieces of silicon attract the neutron. Small pieces of wire catch the neutrons and when they connect they create direct current...

What is Diabetes
Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism the way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose, the form of sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main source of fuel for the body. Diabetes causes glucose to back up in the bloodstream. As more and more glucose remains in the bloodstream blood glucose or blood sugar levels can rise too high. There are two major types of diabetes. Consider the following information a s it relates to both type...
