A Preview of the England Soccer Team and Their Success Leading Up to Soccer Worldcup 2010

England's isolated Soccer Worldcup victory was a home win in 1966. However this win is now a faint recollection as the squad neglected to preserve their trophy as expected, in 1970. Their non-qualification of three world soccer qualifying tournaments, has paid it's price on the team's overall success.
However, after a wave of inferior performance under Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren, there seems to be a new lift of energy in the team thanks to coach Fabio Capello. With a new beam of possibility for the Three Lions' squad, the team needs to improve their stature. With their recent display of confidence and the fact that the weather conditions during the South Africa Worldcup 2010 will be in their favor, England absolutely have an opportunity of at least achieving a semi-final position.

The Key Soccer Worldcup Players

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has displayed vast devotion and is the leading goal scorer having scored 9 goals in 9 matches. Contributing goal scorers are midfielders Steven Gerrard (3) and Frank Lampard (4). Front-man Peter Crouch is not to be excluded with his four strikes in as many games and Tottenham's Jermain Defoe demonstrating his competence with 3 goals in only 135 minutes of play. John Terry and Frank Lampard (10) have had the most Soccer Worldcup appearances of the Three Lions' soccer team.

England's Coach

Fabio Capello was born on June 18, 1946 in San Canzian d'Isonzo, Italy and has won several honors including multiple Serie A and La Liga titles. As a player for Italy, Capello's greatest match was ironically in 1973 against England at Wembley. Acknowledged for his authoritarian style, Capello has had an enormous influence on the England soccer team and has developed them from a state of desolation to one of optimism as they go into the South Africa Worldcup 2010 as genuine candidates.

England FIFA Soccer Worldcup Attainments

- England's arrival to Soccer Worldcup was in 1950 in Brazil and since then they have played in 11 international showpieces. Their solitary win was on home soil in 1966.
- On October 8, 2005, England started a series of ten consecutive victories in FIFA World Soccer qualifiers. However this came to an abrupt end on October 10, 2009 when they were defeated 1-0 by Ukraine.
