Nail gel polish is, in a few words, a dream come true. Allow us to tell you why. You know those times you get a manicure you really love, and then you're suddenly invited to something hands-on, like a crafts night or a lobster bake? And just like that, you're doomed - you just know your nails are going to chip at some point during the event. Well we have good news for you - those days are over!
Once nail gel polish is applied, it's there to stay - anywhere from two weeks to an entire month! It doesn't chip; the secret is its special composition and application. It's applied in more coats than the regular stuff, and between each coating it's allowed to dry under a UV light. The layers stick to one another, basically forming a giant club sandwich of color. While regular polish is made of water-based nitrocellulose, gel polish contains substances that bond to one another, resulting in its superior strength.
Gels come in all different colors, so you can basically create any effect you want with them. Make sure the manicurist you go to is an expert on gel application. Putting on gel nails is a finicky, time-consuming process - you want to make sure it's done right! This is especially important if you want something finicky and pretty, like flowers or animals.
To put it simply, we love gel nail polish. Its strength makes it very cost-effective, and yet it's not difficult for a manicurist to remove it! (Be sure you get this done at a salon, though - swiping at your gels with polish remover isn't going to do the job!)
Bear in mind that some brands of gel are superior to others - we recommend you seek out the best. Before you lay your money down, take a look at what brands your manicurist offers.
