What is Litha

The Wheel of the Year includes numerous sabbats celebrated by Wiccans and Pagans to mark the changes in the seasons, eg the forthcoming Litha.

Litha, otherwise known as(Summer Solstice, Midsummer, Samradh, Alban Heflin, Aerra Litha), is one of the four solar festivals observed by many Wiccan and Pagan traditions.

Aerra Litha marked Midsummer with colossal roaring bonfires that celebrated the might of the sun above darkness, the illumination and warming of the lands.

Litha has often been a source of contention amongst progressive Pagan and Wiccan groups, as there's constantly been a question concerning whether or not Midsummer was indeed celebrated by the ancients.

Celebrate Litha, with fire and water and allow the light and energy to seemlessly flood into your own life.

Nurturing and love are fundamental actions linked to Midsummer.

Plants associated with Midsummer are oak, mistletoe, frankincense, lemon, sandalwood, heliotrope, copal, saffron, galangal, laurel and ylang-ylang.

Litha is a celebration of the midsummer solstice (jun 19th-22nd).

The Pagan and Wiccan Festival of Samradh is an eminent point in the Wheel of the Year, a point in time for celebration of the profusion of summer, as well as being a time to get ready for the darkening to come.

Traditional Pagan foods for Litha include fresh vegetables of all kinds and fresh fruits such as lemons and oranges.

The Litha Sabbat is a time to celebrate both toil and fun, it is a occasion for children and a time to hail the ending of the waxing year and the introduction of the waning year, in grounding for the harvest to come.
