What Style of House Are You Looking For

One of the truly enjoyable things about looking at houses is the variety of styles you are able to choose from. Deciding which style you like best and will fit your needs is a decision that doesnít need to be difficult. Here are some of the different styles you can expect to find and the advantages to each.

Bungalows are single-story houses without a basement. Distinguishing characteristics of a bungalow include a low-pitched roof with a front porch under the extension of the front roof and oftentimes a gable on top. Because they are single-story, bungalows are perfect for people who would rather not have stairs.

Ranch style houses are known for their low, long profile and big windows. Most ranch style houses include a garage and a basement. Ranch houses usually have a simple floor plan which makes them very livable, as each part of the house flows easily into the next.

A duplex refers to two houses connected to each other by a shared wall. A duplex is notable for either being purchased as a single building, or having two separate titles for each half of the house.

Townhouses or row homes are a row of houses attached to each other on either side. The end houses are usually slightly larger than the others. Townhouses are actually quite large compared to the lot of land they sit on. Perfect for couples, smaller families, and anyone who does not want to deal with yard work, townhouses are as a rule a very cost-effective buy.

The difference between a condominium and apartment is simple. A condominium is an apartment that is owned rather than rented. An apartment can vary in size greatly, but is a good choice for those that arenít ready to own a house or donít need a lot of space.

Mobile style homes, commonly known in a group as trailer parks, are factory built homes. Unlike modular homes they are assembled completely off-site and then transported in either as one piece (a single-wide) or two pieces (a double-wide). Since they are smaller and significantly less expensive than site-built homes, mobile homes can be an affordable option for many. However, mobile homes depreciate in value like a car instead of appreciating as most conventional houses.

A split-level home is basically just what it sounds like; a home where one level of the house is half a story above the other and connected with a small stairway. A good example of this type of house is a split-foyer, where as you walk into the entryway you are confronted with two sets of stairs. One set going up to the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms and one set going down to another living room and garage.

The many different styles of housing ensure that somewhere out there is the perfect house for you. Exploring many types of homes can be both fun and educational as you discover your preferences and concerns about potential houses. The perfect home is out there for you somewhere. Good luck with your house hunting!
