Anxiety disorders that lead with panic attacks come unplanned and unpredicted. People who do not have this kind of disorder does not mean that you do not have to know on how to deal with it because it could happen to anyone in an instant. So it is best to equip ourselves with the knowledge on how to handle this situation.
What Causes It?
Anxiety disorders happen when people perceive normal situations as life threatening. One example is experiencing agoraphobia or fear in crowded places. You suddenly feel threatened being in crowded places for no apparent reason and will eventually develop into a panic attack. If something like this happens to you, how will you handle it? Will you face it head on or curl like a hamster in a corner? And what about if you were driving and you suddenly feel the attack is coming down on you? Would you simply let the fear eat you up and potentially endanger yourself and other people or think of ways to calm yourself down and eventually beat it?
With anxiety disorders, there is this fear of the unknown. It means to say that the more we worry or panic about our anxiety disorders, the more it is likely for the panic attacks to resurface at any given time. So it is important to really identify what causes this attack to make sure that we are dealing with the problem itself. I tell you this, once the cause is deal with, the symptoms will eventually follow. It is a domino effect. Sometimes anxiety disorders are caused by a person’s traumatic experience in the past, stress, unhealthy lifestyles and lack of appropriate sleep and rest. You need to understand that the fear that you perceive as life threatening is not real at all.
Discipline your Mind
When anxiety disorder attacks, a disciplined mind is a great tool to handle the problem. Do not let yourself be consumed in panic, instead think clearly on what you should do. The very first thing you need to take care of is your breathing. Take deep normal breaths and hold it in for a few seconds. Some people find it hard to think clearly during panic attacks, and so some of them try to do something with their hand so that they could think well. A stress ball is said to help a lot of people when attacks strike. So make sure to keep your hands busy if you are unable to think clearly.
While you are busy occupying your hands, diverts your thoughts. Think of relaxing situations or scenery. If the attack is caused because you have to speak to a large audience, try to think of them wearing funny underwear or wearing something hilarious. This will help keep your fears away.
Always remember that anxiety disorder is just a misconception of life-threatening situations, so there is no other useful tool to fight it but your mind itself. As you discipline your mind, consider some mental exercises and a good amount of relaxation and healthy living. You will be amazed that you can combat your anxiety disorder with the right attitude and mental discipline.
