Why We Need Crate Training

You are not supposed to leave your dog out. Since canines looked at in essence are pack animals, they're terribly gregarious. They prefer the escort of others (most likely more so than humans do). They hope to be in the house, even when you're not there or when fall asleep and couldn't be playing with them. They hope to feel that they're member of your family "pack" and it means the house is the pack's den, even if you could not be in the house. Taking that feeling of "belonging" and of being a member of your family pack away from your dog will give rise to a lot of psychological harm like locking a kid in the closet for most of the day. They become abnormally anxious or get suffering from psychosis.

A dog kept outdoors can relatively likely have behavior issues including digging, escaping, chewing and barking. When you leave your dog home alone or have no time to keep an eye on him, crate training can hinder those destructive behaviors. You need to make him feel belonging and a member of your family; your dog ought to be with you in the house.

Many people have an incorrect thought that dogs may get bored when they are in a crate or playpen. They can learn to get used to sleep when you're not at home. It is much better than leaving him out where he learns how funny chewing on the door is, get into the garbage, or pee on the carpet. (These are common things that all dogs can have until he learnt how get along with human.) A dog can sleep for eighteen long hours a day if you let him. And keep in mind, when you leave him there alone, he will spend his all time messing up your house or your yard. Meanwhile, that doesn't mean he should stay in his crate for the rest of his life; When he can overcome his damaging behavior problems that any dog can bear since they were born, your dog can get free. (As for an older dog that you take to your home, you should make sure that it is safe to leave the dog there alone.) Many dogs have special habits, like house soiling, which can be altered without great efforts by crate training. If a dog has made the habit of peeing or crapping in the house at any place and at any time he feels like it, then crate training will teach your dog to hold it unless you give him the chance to go out and to relieve himself. For a normal, healthy dog, trying to hold it and not to pee or crap in the crate isn't difficult. To do so would mean he would need to lay in it. Generally, dogs can hold it and wait until the owner get back to let them out.

I strongly suggested that before you leave a newly adopted adult dog alone, you should train him to understand your rules and provide short time test to prove he is trustworthy. Set the rules that when you have no time to keep an eye on him or you're not home; let the dog stay in the crate or playpen until he is at least two years old, or 8 consecutive months. As for puppies, you need to keep using the crate regularly at least 1 to 2 years to make sure your dog has grown up to get rid of those destructive behaviors. When your dogs eliminate those bad habits finally, you don't need to use the crate or playpen usually. You can keep it and use it when it is necessary. Maybe your dogs will form the habit and get used to live in the crate.
