It has been rumoured that the PDP National Secretariat has handpicked a particular candidate to run with the PDP Party ticket without any need to undertake the primary elections. Another group of partisans are of the opinion that on the day of the primary election, the delegates will just act as though they are voting even though in reality, the results would have been generated and computed from the PDP National Secretariat.
My campaign team and I believe that the above assertions are not true and that such information is misleading and can cause divisions among Party stakeholders and supporters.
I strongly believe that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is characterised by people of high integrity and dignity both at the State and Federal level, and that the Party would not disenfranchise any delegate the right to voting at the Party primary election.
However, the central question is; Who Are The Genuine Delegates: The Peoples Democratic Party only permits two types of delegates during the Party primary elections; the statutory delegates and non-statutory delegates.
Statutory delegates have the honour of being delegates as a result of the positions they hold. They include; Ministers, Members of the National Assembly, House of Assembly Members, Party Executives and other positions. Non-statutory delegates are those selected to represent their wards. PDP only permits three delegates per ward, one of whom must be a woman. Note that Oyo State has 351 wards across the 33 Local Government Councils.
It is imperative to re-emphasise that any Party member who has been genuinely selected as a delegate to participate in the Oyo State PDP primary election has a right to vote for the candidate of his/her choice. I beseech delegates not to subject their voting choice to any political influence that contradicts progress and development of both the Party and the State at large, but to vote a credible candidate, a candidate that has what it takes to move Oyo State and the Party forward.
Going forward, the surest way for our Party to win back power is to foster genuine unity and peace within the Party by allowing authentic Party delegates to cast their votes in a free and fair manner.
On this note, I am reaffirming my resolve to deliver a leadership that will provide the drive for a strong, united and peaceful Party in the 2015 Oyo State gubernatorial elections.
Omi Titun asks Party delegates across Oyo State for their continued and unflinching support to ensure that I, Seyi Makinde emerge victorious.
I humbly offer myself to serve and represent you as the governor of Oyo State by Godís grace come 2015 if given the opportunity. Sincerely, Seyi Makinde God bless Nigeria; God bless Oyo State; God bless us all.
