Constipation can occur in anyone. It can be defined as the irregular passing of stools out of your body. In some people, the symptoms include difficulty in passing the feces or eliminating dry stools. After digestion, the processed food moves to the large intestine where all the nutrients are absorbed. The reasons for constipation are many. People who don’t take in a proper diet develop the risk of constipation. A diet low in fiber and high in fats are likely to become constipated. Lack of water also leads to constipation. The presence of liquids in the colon makes the bowel movements flexible and the waste can be removed easily out of the body. Caffeine contained in coffee and some soft drinks cause dehydration, which makes it hard to push the stool in to the rectum. Some sort of medicines that contain antacids, antidepressants and diuretics can slow down the bowel movements.

Changes in lifestyle creates constipation problem and normal life is hindered. Women during their pregnancy period also become constipated as the hormonal changes and enlarged uterus compress the intestine. Ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement because of mental stress is one of the common reasons for getting constipated. Some children postpone having bowel movements as they don’t want to use toilets outside the home. Some neurological diseases and internal disorders that affect the organ systems also lead to constipation.

There are number of natural treatments and home remedies available to cure constipation. These treatments help to facilitate bowel movements and makes the stool softer allowing it an easy flow. Having ginger tea two times a day is the best remedy to heal constipation. Keeping a proper diet is essential. You should include more fruits and vegetables in your daily routine. Eating peeled apple, guava with seeds and chopped onions twice a day add to diet to reduce constipation. Adding extra sugar or honey in milk and having it will help you feel better.

The best method to cure this disorder is having fibrous food items. Green leafy vegetables like broccoli and lettuce help the flow of food through the intestine and exits out of the body. Before you sleep, apply three to four drops of lukewarm castor oil over the navel at night. You will easily pass stools next morning. Regular exercise is an alternate method to prevent the occurrences of constipation.

Apart from medicines, some exercise treatments are prescribed. In Ayurveda, Pawan mukta asana, Vajra asana, Yog mudra, Dhanur asanaare the yoga practices to reduce constipation. You can also seek the help of doctor to relieve the disease. The medicines they prescribe will initiate bowel movements and soften the passing of stools out of your body. People often hesitate to seek a doctor and try to self treat the disease. Even though natural treatments are available, it is safe to get advice from a doctor.
