Tips for Freelancers in Creating Business Cards

Imagine meeting a potential client and you only have a minute or two to introduce your self and your professional service. This kind of situation is where a business card can comes in handy. As a freelancer, it is a mistake not to have business cards with you because these are not only crucial networking tools; they are also excellent marketing paraphernalia.

A business card is basically your way to share your contact information to prospective clients. That alone is reason enough to create and hand out your own cards. When you go to trade shows, conferences, workshops and other business or social events, make sure to bring some because you never know when you will meet someone who just you might be your next big time client.

With custom online printing getting cheaper and cheaper, you have no reason not to create your own set of business cards. To help get you started, here are some things that you should remember:

1. Tap your creative side. Being a freelancer gives you the freedom to create and establish your own unique brand identity. This is your chance to have an impact and make your self known to your target market. So choose an attractive design as well as colors and font styles to enhance the overall theme of your card. Your creative use of various design elements can make your card memorable. With an eye-catching business card design, you are making it easy for people to notice you.

2. Brand yourself. As mentioned, you have the ability to establish your own brand identity as a freelancer. This will let people know who you are and what you do. Your business cards will reflect your professionalism and credibility. For example if you are working in the creative business, as most freelancers do, such as in graphic design, photography or writing, the overall appearance of your card can say a lot about your skills or service. Keep in mind that beyond sharing your contact information, you cards will also affect people’s initial impression of you. So make sure to carefully consider how you present or brand yourself through your business card.

3. Invest in high quality printing. The look and feel of your business cards reflects your attitude towards quality. It also shows how you value professionalism and credibility. So while it can be tempting to scrimp and opt for cheaper paper and ink or printing the cards yourself through your desktop printer, you must also think about your image. If it is in you to pay attention to details, them you should also value the importance of having a well-made finished product. You have to understand that by investing in high quality printing, you can save even more in the long run. Why? This is because cheap, flimsy business cards have shorter lifespan than a professionally-made, superior quality card. Your prospective customers are sure to hold on to your business cards for a longer period of time if those cards are resistant to wear and tear.
