Reviewing Cork Underlayment for Easy Understanding

Underlayment is very necessary when installing cork flooring because of many reasons. Generally, cork underlayment is supposed to conceal any imperfections that might occur when the installation process is in progress. Also, the underlayment will offer protection to the flooring against effects of moisture coming from water among many other reasons. This review will help you to have a clear understanding of underlayment for cork flooring. The underlayment is highly resistant to many things including water, fungus and bacteria.

This is all because of the suberin substance that it contains which comes with additional protection. There is one thing that needs to come out clearly about the underlayment, it is resistant and not proof to water. This means that it can soak in water but still with the ability to resist that or make sure the amount is not too much. The cork flooring comes with four main layers with the underlayment coming second just below the top layer which is finish floor. The underlayment size differs from one manufacturer to another but the standard size that is recommended for cork floors is either 1/4" or 1/2".

The need to have a smooth surface is a great reason why cork underlayment is necessary. This will have a positive impact on the texture of the finish floor but not the subfloor which is usually the third layer below the underlayment. An added benefit is improving stability of the floor since there is an additional material to the structure as well as board running in a perpendicular inclination to the subfloor. Furthermore, the underlayment provides for an ideal surface where the tiles will bond since it will not be easy with the subfloor alone. You will surely have more than a reason to have the underlayment laid for your cork flooring.

However, there are isolated cases where the underlayment will not be necessary for your flooring. One such case is when you are constructing a new house because the subfloor will be in good condition and an underlayment will not be required. Also, the underlayment might not come into question when the finish floor is made of wangled wood or hardwood as a simple rosin paper layer will do the trick for you. The fact that cork underlayment is made from renewable material makes it a suitable choice for flooring purposes. That definitely makes it friendly to the environment because no cutting of trees will be involved. You just have to peel off the bark from the cork oak and it will continue growing uninterrupted.

The bark will be replaced within a short period so it is the right choice for flooring with environment conservation well in mind. All that information will help you choose the best cork underlayment for your floors.
