Japanese Decor Tips For Your Home

If you are thinking about applying Japanese décor in your interiors, then youre making a good choice. Japanese type décor does not need to be expensive. On a budget, it will nonetheless make an impression in your home and will save you some hard-earned cash. Japanese interiors are very simple and not extravagant at all. Its all about finding space and balance with simple items.

Feng Shui is a term that is often used when describing a certain style of decorating and is mainly influenced by Japanese styles. The whole idea behind Feng Shui is to create a harmonious environment which is very minimalistic. Although you can go to extremes with the furniture and accessories you choose when creating a Feng Shui design, it is not necessary at all. Having a small budget does not mean that you will create a less relaxing and comfortable environment, whether it is for your bathroom, bedroom, living area or even in the back garden.

Furniture

Start with the basics. You must have already noticed those low tables in Japanese interiors. They are called kotastsu; they sit low on the floor and have small heaters placed underneath them to keep food warm. Because kotastsu is where family and visitors eat and socialize, then it easily becomes the focal point of the room. The Japanese interior look is not cluttered. So make sure not to put unnecessary items in the area.

Floor

One traditional item in Japanese interiors is the tatami. These are mats that cover the floor and are commonly used in traditional houses in Japan. One option for you if you dont have tatami mats are bamboo area rugs. Bamboo rugs almost closely resemble tatami mats and are therefore very good alternatives. If you are looking for that extra comfort that a tamati mat provides but dont have the budget for them, then adding some under felt that is used under carpets can provide the same sponginess and it makes it easier to clean when needed. Bamboo blinds called sudare can be used if you want to provide a little privacy to a specific area. Once again choosing to use a simple bamboo rug for your windows can create the same effect at a reduced cost if you are really on a tight budget.

The Bedroom

The futon is a very versatile piece of item in Japanese households in that it functions as both sofa and bed. You may purchase either a wooden or metal frame for your futon. Another Japanese item you should consider adding to your room is the shoji screen, which is used to divide a portion of a room. Shoji can be plain white or have interesting prints on them. When considering a shoji screen then try and stretch the budget or wait until you have saved up a bit more as a decent one can look fantastic and quality ones can last a lifetime. A noren is a partition curtain made of cotton. A printed noren looks very attractive and adds to the overall appeal of your room. Because of the simple but interesting items used in Japanese décor, its no wonder Japanese-themed interiors are conducive for relaxation.
