Why Aerobic Exercises Are Not For Losing Weight

Aerobic exercise is not an efficient way to lose weight. Now this may come as something of a shock to many people, but nonetheless it is true. Yes, doing aerobics down the gym is good for your fitness, but when it comes down to helping you to losing weight by burning off fat, it hardly rates much above going for a walk. Personal fitness trainers know this better than anyone, which is why you should come along and talk to them if you are serious about losing weight, and want to get your body shape back under control.

The bad thing about aero is that it is not effective in letting clients lose weight in a desirable and ideal time frame -- it just takes forever with aerobics. The principle behind aerobics is one of increasing your metabolic rate (MR). Increased MR means more calories burned which can go on for several hours even after you work out; most fitness experts can attest to this. The personal fitness trainers use weight training for both weight loss and body shaping. Why? Simply because it is a far more efficient way of burning off fat than pure aerobic exercise is. One of the problems with doing aerobic exercise and working in the so called "fat burning zone" is that you actually burn off muscle tissue. Of course pound for pound, muscle tone and fatty tissue weigh the same, but whereas fatty tissue is just unsightly flab, muscle tissue is the thing that streamlines your body and keeps it in shape.

Some ladies may feel anxious about weight training for fear of building a body full of bulging muscle. Well you need have no fear. Targeted weight training will just tone your muscle tissue and help you to add more toned tissue which actually shapes your body the way you want it.

The other thing that many people are unaware of is that untargeted aerobic exercise actually burns off muscle tissue more so than fat. This isn't what you need nor is it what you aim for! Interval training is targeted at fast weight loss. It achieves this by mixing high and low intensity exercises within your workout, to produce a much more effective fat burn program. It also increases you metabolic rate for up to twelve hours after your workout has finished, as your body burns calories to replenish the muscle tone you have worked.
