Can We Really Contribute To A Longer Healthier Life

? Many of us share the desire for a long healthy and active life. Sadly for many reasons this is unattainable by some. However for the majority, there are measures we can adopt to stack the odds in our favour, giving us the best chance to live longer, healthier and more productive lives.

One problem confronting many is information overload which may cause some to 'switch off' and yet others is become confused. It is not only the total volume of information and the difficulty of keeping up to date, there is the technical jargon and at times conflicting advice. Can we isolate a few measures which appear to work and incorporate them into our lifestyle?

Practically everyone appreciates vitamins and minerals are important for health. Some claim all our needs are met from the average modern diet, others disagree. The evidence suggests modern storage methods have reduced much of the nutritional value of our food. Methods of cultivation seem likely to produce lower nutritional levels. Supplemental minerals are unlikely to be adequately assimilated in some of the commonly presented forms.

Oxygen must be absorbed from the air we breathe to sustain life, on this we are all agreed. The difficulty is that much of our air is laden with unwanted elements like noxious industrial fumes and the end product of mechanized transport. We also contribute to this undesirable state in our homes by the use of various aerosol sprays 'air fresheners and 'cleansing agents' incorporating deceptive health sounding names based on 'lemon'.

Not content with indirect attacks on our person, many of the lotions applied to our skin in the course of 'beautification' are suspect. A number inhibit the skin from 'breathing' by providing an oily seal, while others introduce highly dubious substances which in different circumstances might carry a health warning.

Fortunately there are mechanical devices including filters which can extract undesirable substances from the air we breath, while maintaining an optimum level of humidity. There are also devices which use "ultraviolet light scanner" to kill approaching 100% of bacteria and viruses on many surfaces (but cannot be used on the skin).

Our bodily functions best in an alkaline state, while many unwanted elements do not. There is therefore a case for ensuring our water is filtered, purified and make alkaline before being used to prepare food and drink. A related case can be made against 'colas' and other highly acidic drinks.

Wear and tear of our body comes in two main forms. Malfunction or wear and tear of joints, which can be counteracted by collagen and collagen promoting products.

The second and perhaps more critical assault is by free radicals (harmful molecules) whose impact can be counteracted by a number of agents including phytonutrients (plant chemicals).

We also know that enzymes are the catalysts which orchestrate a host of bodily functions. As they decline over time it makes sense to supplement our body's supply.

Another factor implicated in ageing or premature ageing is the availability of growth hormone. Synthetic hormone and hormones from animal sources are problematic. However as it appears growth hormone is produced through life, but stored, the use of liberating agents should prove acceptable to many.

Yes I do know overeating, excessive drinking, smoking and "recreational drugs" are harmful and that exercise and adequate rest should be incorporated into your life - but so do you!

If we provide our body with the nutrients necessary for growth, repair and defense, take appropriate measures to guard against pathogens and other debilitating assaults on our wellbeing and offer whatever practical assistance we can to overcome nutritional deficiencies, the prospect of longer healthier active life can be greatly enhanced.

I Decided I Had To Do This
Copyright (c) 2010 John McBride I realize the ever present a danger when we become overenthusiastic about some project, is that common sense and good judgment can 'go out of the window'. We have our different triggers which command attention or get us excited. It is good to be aware of yours. It may be that persuasive reassuring voice, or the video clip where someone looks you in the eye, while exuding sincerity and confidence. Others prefer just to hear a message, which they find less...

Can There Really Be A Secret To Prosperity
? Copyright (c) 2010 John McBride From time to time over the past centuries, a quest has been launched for a critical life element. Some quality, feature, insight or other innate ability, which conferred advantage in the pursuit of a better, more prosperous or more fulfilled life. Is there something we should be seeking to access and utilize, to make our journey through life more satisfying, more productive, or more successful? Some thirty or more years ago, I was introduced to an interesting...

Does The Early Bird Catch The Worm
? Much tends to be made of the concept that joining an enterprise in its infancy can confer many advantages. You may have heard the comment or perhaps been posed the question, what if you had been in at the beginning of Microsoft, seen the opportunity video presented , capitalised on the mobile phone explosion, foreseen the growth of E Bay or identified the home computer market? Clearly these areas had income potential and there is ongoing profit to be made from most for some years....

Your Greatest Asset In Life is Free
In our differing ways we are all engaged in the process of seeking success. Because of our aspirations, ability and commitment, we approach this in a variety of ways. Many will fail in their quest, for what they have perceived as success, but need this be so? At some point in your life you are likely to encounter this frequently quoted statistic, originally presented by Earl Nightingale, I believe. Out of 100 people, by the time they reach 65, one will be rich, four will be financially...

A Way Forward For The Unhappy Worker
It seems that perhaps four out of five people are unhappy with their lot. Although this is not a scientifically generated estimate, I believe it is not too wide of the mark. Many with whom I am in contact, claim to be unhappy about many things which impact their lives. The taxation system, the government, individuals who don't pull their weight, the healthcare system, changing standards, prices, the behaviour of the young. I am sure you can readily expand this list and have contact with some...

Choice Can Be Your Downfall
We like to believe we are in control of our lives, but to what extent are we the product of forces both within and beyond our control? Our lives are obviously impacted by factors like genetics, parental influence, dietary patterns, vacation trends, health factors, fashion, dress, leisure activities, education employment and many others. Significant events also exert their influence often in unforeseen ways; things like flood, hurricane, drought, acts of vandalism, terrorism, war and personal...

Do You Need Or Want A Mentor
? Have you noticed how trends develop, have their day and then fade away to be superseded by another, which for a time will maintain pride of place? As an analyst of traditional business and columnist, I took more than a passing interest in the Party Plan approach, the evolution of Multi Level Marketing (MLM) and the many traditional part time income opportunities which captured public attention. Trends developed, had their day and quietly began to fade. The hotel meetings, the display...
