Mexican Restaurants 101

These days we are used to trying different foods from different cultures and countries all over the globe, and Mexican restaurants are just one of many types to be popping up all over the globe. When you visit your new local Mexican restaurant for the first time however you will need some guidance as to what is on the menu and what you should try. Although Mexican food is famed for being spicy, this is not entirely true and there are dishes to suit all tastes as well as all ages. So, you need to decide what to choose first from the excellent choice of side dishes and mains that are on offer.

For a starter dish, a plate of nachos with melted cheddar cheese and side dishes of guacamole and sour cream have to be a favorite, and not just with the foreign diner. These crisp maize crisps taste great, and you can choose to have them served on a bed of crispy lettuce, or even with some spicy chilli con carne. If you wish to avoid anything hot in this dish, then make sure that you make sure to ask for no jalapeno peppers to be hidden in your dish. This excellent appetizer makes a great center piece for the table and something to nibble on whilst you are waiting for your main course.

One favorite main course to order on your Mexican restaurant has to be some crispy chicken fajitas. Served in a sizzling iron pan, the chicken strips are lighted basted with spices and served to your table mixed with some red and green peppers; just the smell of the frying pan is enough to get your taste buds watering. Why a lot of people choose this dish is because you can build up your own fajitas from tortilla wraps, lettuce, chicken, sour cream, and some lightly grated cheese. This dish is not hot and is great even for kids who will love to build their own dinner!

Mexican food has a reputation for being spicy, and if you wish to try a spicy dish, then a hot chilli con carne could be a great start. If however you wish to be more adventurous then you can try a hot and spicy burrito or enchilada, cooked to your own tastes, and with as much spice as you can handle. Of course, one ingredient that you will find in Mexican food that makes their dishes extra hot is some jalapeno chilli peppers. These really spice up your dish, and if you order them as a side dish, then you need to be prepared to have a cool coronita with a slice a lemon to wash it down with.

Mexicans are famed for their side dishes that accompany their food, and it really is a great way of making sure that you have all your special and favorite ingredients in one dish. Side orders of jalapenos, refried beans, and rich guacamole made from the freshest and ripest avocado pears are just some of what is on offer. With side dishes, you can choose extra salsa, extra chilli to make your dish just that bit spicy, or even choose extra lashings of sour cream that will help sooth your throat after all those jalapenos. Mexican cuisine is simply divine and these are just a few of their most famous dishes that you should try.
