Can You Get Things Done at the Office

Ever go to a restaurant with your significant other for a nice romantic meal but it doesn't quite turn out that way? You look at the menu, you're trying to find something to order, and then you hear this really loud voice from the table next to you?

You start to eavesdrop and you are trying not to but the guy's voice at the other table is soooo loud. This guy is a total talker. He is going on and on about nothing, and he doesn't stop for the entire meal. So annoying! You can't even concentrate and find something to order!

Concentration and focus is so huge in business too…

Do you ever feel like you need to get away from the office to get work done? Your employees sometimes distract you. The phone never stops ringing. (I know that's a good thing.) Or it's just too hard for you not to check email. Ever feel like you are in reactive mode rather than proactive mode?

In business, sometimes you need time to get away and be by yourself. You need some peace and quiet. Yes, you need days off to rejuvenate. But this time, I am talking about taking time away from the office to strategize.

I believe you are supposed to break free of your current plateau in your biz.

Want a game changer? You need to block time. I am not talking 2 or 3 hours. I am talking days. (You can even start with just 1 day.) Take yourself off the grid. Go AWOL. No email, no phone calls, no Facebook, nothing. It's time for you to just do your strategy and then implement the strategy as well.

Some of this time you may need to share with your team. During this time, you need to make sure that you have enough support and help to service your clients and customers while you are off the grid.

In the beginning, blocking days is going to be challenging. The question is, how are you going to show up and meet this challenge? Do it to take your business to the next level. Do it to make more money. Do it so the money can pay for your personal goals.

Here's my list of strategic stuff you can do on your block-out-time days:

• Identify new promotional partners for you to align yourself with. Reach out to them. • Systems. Create an operations manual. • Taxes. Call your CPA to create a plan for you to pay taxes throughout the year so you don't get a tax surprise in April. • Pricing and product choices. Do you need to revise your pricing? Are you giving your peeps enough choices to buy? Do you have a premium product/service offering? • Technology. Leverage this to automate more things in your business. Upgrade your computers, get better software, Google CRM software and see what software you can use to be more productive. • Write 5 blog posts for the next 5 weeks. • List 4 things you can farm out to people on Then farm them out. This is huge for me. • Do some market research. Create a survey to learn something new that will result in more biz. • Listen to your customers to see what else you can offer them. • Read an entire business book that you just haven't had the time to read. • Create a social media plan for your business.

Start your block days with meditation, a walk, protein, and all of that good stuf. Let yourself think rather than just react. Let your ideas and thoughts come to you. You will have more clarity on what you should be doing.

Use these days to reconnect to what is meaningful for you - all of those business projects that you wish you had the time for. Enjoy the journey. You will feel great.

Would a Home Office Work for You
? Home office vs. regular office You bring your bedhead in the a.m. to the kitchen. At around 7:30am you have your morning coffee/tea. You check email, and you start to reply to a few of them. The minutes are ticking by. Next thing you know it's 9:00am. Then your cell phone rings and it's a big referral source. You take the call but your cell phone dies. Now they are calling you on Skype. You click answer with video, but you forget that you are still in your PJs with your yucky t-shirt and...

Is Your Team of Employees Helping or Hurting You
? Creating a strong team of employees is crucial to your business. Oh I loved my pillow. I used to travel with it all of the time when I was a kid. This week, while I was at the Los Angeles airport on my way to see clients in San Fran, I saw a few of the usual sightings. A few mullets, guys with jean shorts, guys with really short slacks, guys with loafers and no socks. Then I saw this guy with the worst comb-over ever traveling with his own pillow. I was expecting him to whip out a juice...

What's wrong with this picture? You're going to get burned and need to hire an employee, that's what. You probably have a...

Invest in Your Business or Retirement
? Whether To . It's Not an Either-Or. I get this question all the time from business owners about where to invest. Should you invest in your business or should you invest in an IRA for retirement? My simple shpiel? You have to do both. Then I hear this from other clients: Justin, I feel like I have no control over what happens to the stock market! I'd rather just put my money back into my business. I get it. I feel your sense of having more control in your business but . . . You...

McDonalds and Subway Have This Do You
? According to the U.S. Dept of Commerce, 95% of franchises are still in business after 5 years. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the SBA, only 50% of small businesses survive within 5 years. So why do franchises succeed? One reason is that they follow an operations manual the franchisor created for them. An operations manual is a written plan for how to run your business. It should be written so a complete stranger could walk into your company and take over the duties of any...

Get the Right Business Attorney
My mentor Brendon Burchard told me never let your small business make you small minded. Think of yourself as the CEO. Every great CEO surrounds him/herself with really bright people. You need some smart attorneys in your corner. You probably don't think you need a business attorney. But when you find out you need one, it's usually too late. Even if you think you don't need an attorney right now, it's important to have relationships with one. You never know when you will need one. Smart...

Does Money Equal Happiness
Your peace of mind. Your happiness. Your return on life. How much does all of this stuff cost? Can you buy it at Whole Foods or Trader Joes? Can you get a deal online at Amazon? It's not about the money. Or is it about the money? Gallup, the American Institute of Public Opinion, did a study of which country had the happiest people. They found out that the countries that had the happiest people were some of the poorest. El Salvador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago. Wait a minute! The...

A 401k for Your Employees
? This July, 401k participants will receive more disclosures about the fees they are paying inside their 401k plans. The Department of Labor wants more transparency and more disclosure on what kind of fees employees are paying inside their 401ks. Why? Because many employees have no idea how much they are paying in mutual fund fees. A recent survey by AARP said that 71% of people saving for retirement thought they didn't pay any investment fees whatsoever. The fees inside a 401k are either...

Increase Your Net Profit
Confused about why your gross profit is high but your net profit is low? When the ladies get them they look real. But when guys get spray tans they look like Magda's twin brother from the movie There's Something About Mary. Spray tans last about 7 to 12 days. So if you are into this stuff, you have to go every 1 to 2 weeks. That's a lot of tanning, and that's a recurring fixed expense for you. Maybe that's where all of your money goes. Do you ever ask yourself: Where does all of the money...
