My First Drop Shipping Supplier
When I took my first course on how to become a reseller in internet stores, I tried to find a niche in a category that I would love and feel comfortable. It's really not easy to find because there's lots of competition. The course I took included a 10-day trial with a supplier to sell my items on the internet. Not too bad for a resident of the United States, but not for anyone living outside the United States as the company did not export outside the United States.
Working with such companies doesn't really work because eBay indicates the country of origin based on information provided during registration. Even though you're selling products via a drop ship supplier it will indicate your country and not the country of the products you're selling. This could confuse buyers, especially those trying to avoid additional customs costs. For example, I'm from Canada and when someone's making a purchase they think it's from Canada. So when requesting delivery within Canada, they had to pay customs since the product actually ships from the United States.
A Call from the Supplier
As I began to learn and do some testing on eBay, I got a call from the supplier just a few days later. They wanted to talk about the subscription and all the benefits they have to offer. They offered me three months free with a one-year subscription, which sounded good. I bought the one-year subscription thinking I got a good deal.
When you're in the learning process, it's very easy to lose money. After several tries, I found that the sale price of the competition is less than the purchase price from my supplier. In the end I realized that I needed to find another supplier with a better price.
Looking for Another Supplier
During my research I found a place where there is a directory of over 8,000 suppliers. Each supplier is evaluated by the company and the members of this directory. I was able to find some suppliers from my country, but the prices remained high. From this place I was able to find another directory of suppliers in China with the same evaluation for each supplier.
This gave me more opportunities to seek new providers, and I was able to find much more reasonable prices. The next problem was shipment and clearance. Some suppliers offer interesting benefits, such as shipping to your country. This makes a big difference in the initial cost of your product for resale.
As you can see, perseverance is our best ally. The learning curve may be different for you, but the process remains the same for everyone. You will learn by making mistakes. Each step you complete brings you closer to success.
