First impressions count for so much in our lives and your business card is on the front line of promotion you and your business and it is working incredibly hard - 24/7 and 365 days of the year with no let up and no break. A business card made from cheap, lightweight paper or printing quality which looks like it came off a cheap inkjet printer at home gives off all the wrong messages. A business card is serious document being used to keep your identity, business and contact information on hand for use at any time by the recipient so if you are not prepared to take some time to make sure you get a quality business card to perform this simple task, why should a prospect seriously consider doing business with you? To look like a professional and give an impression of reliability, being established and reliable you should consider making sure your business cards follow some of these simple rules. Firstly make sure you use a good quality paper for the cards to be made on; the heavier the paper the better it will feel in the hand and the weight gives a perception of reliability and solidity which passes automatically on to you and your business. If you use a very heavy paper you can increase the thickness of the card itself which makes it easier to stand out from the deck of business cards which are inevitably collected by business people - when they want to find your card it is simple if is thicker than the others and this is also the point of a business card - having your contact information to hand whenever the recipient wants it, so make it easier for them to find you. Use color to great effect: color is usually neglected with business cards and the usual, dull mix of white card and black print fills office drawers up and down the country. Forget that and use a different approach with a different color paper or a striking but uniform image being used as the background for your card (such as a tropical sea or a tropical green foliage scene) and have your design overlaid against that. This will make sure your card stands on from the rest but nevertheless, your business card must still conform with your brand identity you are trying to promote. You should also consider using a different shape than that of the standard business card and some great results have been seen with circular business cards as these automatically hang out of the deck but you must keep in mind how the cards will be stored. Make sure the business card can fit in a wallet or purse as it is much more likely to get tossed in the trash or mislaid if it will not - the point is to stand out but not to be inconvenient.
