One of the key factors that you must analyze when you're looking into the wind turbine kit concept is the speed at which the wind blows where you're looking to locate a piece of equipment. There are several aspects of wind vectors that need to be calculated in to your equation though.

The wind is a complex thing. Of course it is generated by the sun through uneven heating of the ground and its cooling effect over a period of time. Most people don't know this. The sun is really the source of all energy on earth. Whether it be wind or solar, it all comes from the sun.

Each particular location around your house has its own individual microclimate. This concept of microclimate is very important in understanding the available when energy you have the harvest. When I say microclimate that has really 2 elements-both the average speed at which the wind blows over a long period of time and the distribution of wind speeds throughout the day. Both of these factors need to be calculated when assessing the strength or weakness of a particular area that you might install the turbine.

Average wind speed is probably the most important factor and rule from that you can go by that hopefully soon will be outdated is that an average wind speed of 9 mph. If you have 9 mph wind and you're in pretty good shape and will have a strong wind turbine project. The other factor that I've alluded to is the distribution of wind speeds.

Every hour will have its own unique wind signature and that would be reflected in the data was downloaded from an anemometer. It is important to understand how the wind blows over the course of the day. Is it blowing mostly in the morning or late in the afternoon? Or, is it evenly distributed throughout the day? As this technology improves though, we will see the average wind speed at which you need to make power drop faster and faster. We are already seeing some that will operate well below 2 mph even.

The future of this technology depends on lighter materials and our ability to make power from super low wind conditions. This is where a lot of the residential wind turbine research and development money being spent now. If we can take care of when situations less than 1 mph average, then the number of places in this country where wind power can be a significant factor will increase dramatically. With a wind turbine kit you can purchase options now that will allow you to make power is low as 1/2 mile per hour.
