Vertical Wind Turbine For The Home 3 Main Factors

Anyone who lives in a city needs to be thinking about a vertical wind turbine for the home as a way to cut energy costs. Being that city dwellers have an abundance of "roof real estate", a vertical turbine that doesn't take up much space may be the ideal solution.

Of all the types of turbines out there, verticals are the new kids on the block but they may well be the strongest card in the wind deck these days. It has been estimated that there is enough wind blowing around out there to supply power to the whole country if we aggressively moved forward to harvest it.

There are certainly more than this, but these are the 3 big reasons for you to be looking at vertical-axis turbines for your roof or elsewhere on your property:

1. The strength of the roof as a platform for wind- due to "Roof Effect", your roof can be an outstanding place to find good quality wind. What happens is, wind hits the angled part of the roof and accelerates along it in a boundary layer until reaching the apex. At that point, the speed can be as much as 3 times as the initial speed! Obviously, the eve of the roof is where you should install your turbine.

2. Vertical wind turbines located on your roof are easy to get to if problems arise - it is inevitable that you will need minor and possibly major work on your windmill over time. These devices operate in turbulent wind environments and it is difficult to protect them from every storm. That being said, when something goes wrong, it is nice to only have to go up on your roof to fix the problem. When you mount your turbine on a tower - which is the typical place for a horizontal turbine of any size - they are a lot more difficult to access. You will likely have to have a professional do even your normal maintenance rather than doing it yourself.

3. Also, vertical-axis wind turbines are styled to blend in with the roof environment - they have an almost ornamental aspect to them that significantly diffuses the neighbors' complaints. As well, vertical turbines are a lot quieter than comparable horizontal wind turbines. And, they don't shift and seek the wind - they just spin in a vertical plane and are quite relaxing to look at actually. Summarizing - if you have the option to put a vertical wind turbine on your roof, you should seriously consider it. There are many advantages and very few disadvantages.
