Single Father Parenting Key Advices For You

Developing a solid relationship with your kid without his mom by your side is definitely achievable. Each single dad parenting his little one is somewhat worrying heís not going to be capable to be authoritarian enough or loving enough.

Thereís a first key advice I would share with any single dad parenting his child, which is :

1. Please don't try to be the hero. Simply be the dad your child can really rely on and speak to. Tell him things about your childhood, show compassion regarding what he feels as a kid. Itíll help building up the bond with him.

Being a single father parenting your kid takes a lot and the 6 following advices will help you see what you can do:

2. Do not lie to your kid. He really needs to feel trusted. Be truthful and donít make any promises you wonít keep.

3. Pay attention to your words and behavior. Be the person you would like your child to become. Do not forget children mimic adults. A single father parenting his kid needs to be all the more conscious of the image he gives back to his child.

4. Encourage good behaviors. Help your little one choosing a good attitude with you by understanding what it may bring to his life. Say youíre proud and glad when he acts that way. Put words on what you feel, this will show your kid how he can express his own emotions to you.

5. Donít be angry when your little one misbehaves. Itís useless and doesnít teach emotional self-control. Make the rules clear. Have a firm tone of voice. Never shout, do not spank. Just communicate your discontent. It'll have a better impact on your child. If you really need to give a punishment, do so but make clear what behavior you punish and that you love him no matter what.

6. Pay attention to your kid and make eye contact when he talks. Tell him youíre glad he shares things with you. Show interest in his life and what he discovers. Ask him some questions. Youíll be a part of his life even more that way. Play with your kid ! Be the dragon, the baby, the horse of your child's imaginary farm. Itís particularly important.

I do hope that, as a single father parenting your little one and in need of some help, youíll apply these advices and see results. Maybe you will not, I am not claiming every situations are identical and I know it can in some cases be more tough. In most cases, a parenting programcan fix things by providing a guideline, valuable communication tools and complete support to parents. Many of them actually focus on single parenting. If it interests you, I set up a website with some parents after we wrote down a selection of efficient parenting methods and reviewed them. The link to our website is in my bio.
