The health care industry is one of the generators of the highest number of jobs and the most diversified jobs. It also pays off some of the highest salaries. These reasons plus the obvious fact of an ever-increasing demand or health care professionals are possible contributors as to why many individuals are enthusiastic in knowing the ways of how to become a nurse. 1. There are many types of nurses - know which one you want to become.

Nurse is just a general job term. In a broader sense, nurse can refer to different classifications with different job specifications. There are certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and registered nurses. By deciding on what type of nurse you want to become, choosing the appropriate program will be easier.

2. There are different learning institutions - choose where you want to obtain your nursing education.

Nurse training programs are offered in a wide variety of venues such as community schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, and online schools. All of them may have one or more nursing programs. CNA programs typically requires some months to a year before completion. Courses for LPNs and LVNs can take anywhere from a year to a two to finish. Diploma courses for registered nurses also take two years to complete. Associate RN degrees are a bit lengthy taking anywhere from two to three years to finish. Bachelor's RN degrees need four years of schooling.

3. There are several career paths - think of professional growth and advancement.

As a general perception, people view CNAs, LPNs, and LVNs as the most stagnant nursing positions due to the less time required for the corresponding programs to finish. These may be true but in reality there are also increments in salary grades as one stays longer in the profession. Like RNs, they also have the opportunity to further their studies for greener pastures.

4. There are various governing laws - certifications and licenses are necessary.

Becoming a nurse also entails different certifications and licensure examinations. There are corresponding certification exams for each type of nurses. These certifications and licenses are commonly required by local governments for an individual to practice their nursing profession. One example of a nursing examination that has worldwide recognition is the NCLEX for registered nurses. Passing this examination allows foreign nurses to work in the United States and other parts of the world.

Summing up the requirements on how to become a nurse runs down on career path, education, and license. A specific path in nursing cannot be smoothly taken without proper education and necessary license.

With the presence of many institutions offering various nursing training programs, how to become a nurse has been made easier to fulfill. It is just a matter of preference, determination, patience, and proper study habits for an individual to successfully become a nurse who will make his own mark in the diverse field of health care.
