Registered Nurse Training What Are the Requirements

Being a registered nurse can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. For those interested, the first thing to do is to learn what all the requirements are in order to become a registered nurse. Nursing offers a variety of paths to choose from, and you can make a rewarding career from it. There are a variety of degrees that you are going to be eligible for including an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or even a diploma for nursing. Even in a tough economy, nursing still remains to be strong and in high demand. There will always be people that are sick or need to be under the care of a doctor, which means nurses will always have jobs.

Schooling is going to help prepare you for a rewarding career in nursing, and these classes and courses are designed to help you deal with real life situations that you could come across over the course of your career. You will primarily focus on science classes, and if you are still in high school, you may want to opt for taking advanced classes such as biology, chemistry, physics, and others to help prepare you for college level classes. This helps set a better foundation for college.

You also need to have clinical completed before working as a registered nurse. These are going to get you into the field and practicing with real patients as you learn what you are going to be doing and working side by side with an actual registered nurse or doctor. You need to have a set amount of clinical hours completed before you can go on to get your nursing license. Nursing spans across several fields, and you need to determine whether you want to be a general nurse, or something more specialized.

Requirements may also ask that you have a set GPA from high school, and that you complete some general prerequisite classes before enrolling in an actual nursing career. Once you have taken and completed required re-req classes, you will have to take and pass the NCLEX-RN exam that licenses you as being a practical nurse. There may be other requirements from state to state so this is something that you should look into.

There are many nursing jobs that are going to ask that you have a Bachelor's degree, but there are jobs that you can get with just an Associate's degree. The higher the degree you have, the better off you are going to be both salary wise and opportunity wise. If you are a specialized nurse, there is more money to be made and greater job opportunities for you.

The requirements to become a registered nurse can be rather rigorous at times, and they are essential for those interested in a nursing career. Nursing is a great career to get involved in especially if you have great communication skills and are great with people. Patients depend on nurses for accurate and effective care, and for those who are not fond of helping others and having patience, this is something you should steer clear of.
