When you have type 2 diabetes it is very important that you understand this disease so that you can live a normal life once again. Type 2 diabetes is a condition where your body does not produce enough insulin. In a healthy body your pancreas produces insulin where it then helps your body cells to absorb blood sugar that is then converted into energy. Insulin plays a big part in your body; it is what keeps your blood sugar levels in your body normal and maintained at a healthy level.
So when you have type 2 diabetes this means that your body is not producing enough insulin. When this happens your blood sugar levels rise to very dangerous levels, and if it is left untreated you can develop serious or life threatening complications to your overall health.
Type 2 diabetes can be managed effectively with a well-balanced healthy diet and regular exercise. If you donít manage it properly, then you will increase your risk of developing heart disease, blindness, stroke, and kidney damage, just to name a few. People that suffer type 2 diabetes are also prone to develop skin disorders and foot problems that can end up in amputation if you are not careful.
As I mentioned above, you can manage your diabetes through a healthy diet, exercise and medication if required for your situation. It is not easy having and living with type 2 diabetes, however if you make the necessary changes to your lifestyle you can live a normal life.
At first, it can be very daunting and scary; especially when you have to work out which foods you should be eating and which foods affect you more than others. We are all different, so some foods can play havoc with your blood sugar levels where the next person does not appear to have the same problem with the same food. This is why it is important to monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis; it will help you eliminate the foods that cause your blood sugar to rise.
Type 2 diabetes is a disease where you may not necessarily feel anything; you could have this disease without even realising it! So this is why you need get checked on a regular basis, especially if you are not eating well and you do no exercise at all.
Hyperglycemia is not the only problem you can have with type 2 diabetes, hypoglycemia, which is also known as a low blood sugar level. These conditions can be very dangerous and potentially life threatening. This is yet another reason why you need to understand type 2 diabetes and how your lifestyle can affect you.
Once you get your diet plan and exercise regime all worked out, it is important to implement it, it will be hard at first, but well worth the initial struggles that you may encounter. Always keep in the fore front of your mind that this is a very serious disease and with changes to your lifestyle, you could be jeopardising your life. With the proper care and management of your type 2 diabetes, you will be able to live a normal life once again.
