Commuting to Work Can Be a Pain

Commuting to work is usually not a problem for some people. However, for other people, commuting to work can be a real pain and can ultimately ruin what would have been otherwise a bright, chipper start to their day.

I work from home, but when I used to commute to work, it was almost always a nightmare. The only times when I wouldn't hit traffic was when I would leave super early in the morning to get to the office by 7 a.m. However, now that I don't have to go to work, I have still seen the wrath of the morning commute when I go for runs or when I run out to complete errands. Miles and miles of traffic backed up on the highway is not an unusual sight to see when you are on the road. Things only feel worse when you know that you have to be somewhere at a certain time and you can't get there because of traffic.

Recently, I had a doctor's appointment. Because I had just moved into a new apartment, I was unsure of what time to leave in order to avoid traffic. I totally miscalculated the time that I should have left. Because there was construction going on right outside of my apartment complex, and because the road right outside of my apartment complex was sort of a major through way for morning commuters (which at the time, I did not know but I know now), it was backed up. In fact, it was so incredibly backed up, that I couldn't even get out of my apartment complex! I wound up exiting my apartment complex via the second entrance in the back.

Things were going well for about a minute until I hit the other part of the morning rush hour traffic. Geez! I couldn't even catch a break. I finally managed to make my way through most of the morning rush hour traffic and was approximately five minutes away from the doctor's office when they called to tell me that I was running too late. The next appointment had already arrived, and they were going to have to cancel my appointment. Frustrated and angry, I conceded. I had spent almost an hour sitting in rush hour traffic for an appointment that normally would have taken me ten to fifteen minutes to get to. Needless to say, I was going to make sure that all of my future appointments for anything were going to be scheduled during non-rush hour times.

Commuting is not just a problem during designated rush hour times, though. In fact, because of the huge population boom in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area, I have found that traffic starting to become just as bad at any time of the day (save for between midnight and 3 a.m.). The most that we can do as drivers during this time is just be patient, take deep breaths, and most of all: make sure that we leave ourselves plenty of time to get to wherever it is we're going!

Commuting to Work
On average, most employed people spend somewhere in the ballpark of between one to three hours in their vehicle just driving to and from work in one day. This accounts for traffic delays, driving distance to the work place as well as inclement weather. When you think about this, it certainly seems like a large chunk of time; and that's because it is! There is one person I know who actually commutes two hours to work just going one way! As it turns out, he was recently laid off from work as an...

Some Common Foot Problems
Our feet probably suffer more abuse than any part of our body and receive the least care. Most people devote far more time and money than caring for their faces than looking after their feet. But sometimes the feet decide to revolt and remind us of their presence. The results can be both annoying and painful. Improperly fitted shoes are a common cause of foot problems. Other causes are a result of medical problems elsewhere in the body such as poor circulation, diabetes, or nerve damage. But...

Commuting to Work and Saving Gas
In this day and age of economic crisis, every single penny that you spend counts (unless you're a self-proclaimed millionaire). And for a lot of people, nowhere else do they see themselves losing more money than when it comes to driving. A few years ago, I made the mistake of being young and naďve when it came to buying my first car. Everything that you are supposed to do when buying a car the right way, I pretty much went the opposite direction. As a result, I ended up purchasing a brand new...

Driving Yourself Crazy For No Reason
Road rage is one of the most, if not the most, dangerous things that causes accidents today. However, since the gas prices have gone up, have you noticed any changes in how Americans drive? In recent studies, it has been revealed that road rage is on the decline. Why is this? Simple. Because of the high cost of gas, more people have opted out of driving their personal vehicles. This has led to a massive amount of people leaving their cars parked in the driveway or garage and instead...

The Small Cars
My boyfriend has a BMW Z3. I have a Jeep Liberty. Both are highly impractical vehicles. At the time when I purchased my jeep, I had already been the previous owner of a Jeep Liberty (which had been given to me as a gift), and so I was just continuing in a pattern of sticking with something that I was used to. The Jeep provided me with comfort and room when I made the long drives from North Carolina to New York and also had plenty of space for toting around groceries, sporting equipment and...

The Artists Behind the Steering Wheels
While one usually looks upon the manufacture of an automobile as an engineering accomplishment, there is that part of its making that is art. Although when most people think of art, they definitely don't think of automobiles. And when they visualize automakers they visualize engineers not artists. Yet the part of the car that most of us interact with, the seats, the steering wheel, the dashboard are the work of artists more than engineers. For the interior of the automobile as well as the...

The Earthbound Rocket
While supercar is a subjective designation and the characteristics change from decade to decade most of the 'ten top' lists include cars with very high hp engines, 2-meter wide bodies and rear wheels mounted with 335 mm tires. However, rules were meant to be broken particularly when the rules are flexible to begin with. So enter the Rocket. The Rocket's body style is as far away from the Super Ferraris and Lamborghini's as one can get and still be a car. The hood resembles the end of a vacuum...

When a Child is Bitten or Stung
If a child encounters a bee, wasp, yellow jacket or fire ant, they are very likely to get stung. These stings cause severe pain and swelling. Young children are especially vulnerable. For most children the pain and swelling subside within fifteen minutes. However, a sting on the forehead can cause both eyes to swell and a sting on the hand or foot may result in swelling for several days. If the child's immune system is functioning effectively, this will be the extent of the problem. The type of...
