A Visit To New York City

New York is a city that vibrates with energy. It is one of the most dynamic cities, having a densely packed and multi-cultured population. You find colliding languages, cultures and nuances here where you are stimulated all the 24 hours of a day with highs and lows of fun.

Wherever you go in New York, you will feel that you have seen it all before. Be it the leafy Central Park, the lady liberty or the French bistro in Soho as all this has been shown in a movie or a television serial. However, there is something special in seeing these landmarks, and many more, of the ‘city that never sleeps’.

You will find that New York consists of five boroughs; the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn and the Manhattan. Those who visit Manhattan seldom leave it as so much is packed here. You find the 24-hour pasta restaurants, sidewalks of Chinatown, the theaters of Broadway and the jazz clubs of Greenwich Village all merged in Manhattan. Moreover, you also find the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and the Empire State Building here.

New York has often been called the best place to spend a three day holiday. You find beautiful museums, bars, clubs and galleries. You have a choice of spending your day in the National Park of Upstate New York, the leafy oasis of Central Park and the beaches of Long Island. You get to be bewitched and bewildered by the pulse of New York.

The Statue of Liberty is the universal symbol of the country of New York. It was the first sight that 12 million immigrants passing through the Ellis Island Immigration Center got to see when they came to New York. The Statue of Liberty was sculptured by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, and modeled on the Colossus of Rhodes. It was donated by the people of France in the year of 1886 to commemorate the alliance between the country of France and America. You can climb its 354 steps to reach the crown of the statue where you get a panoramic view over the New York harbor. The height here is equivalent to a 22 story building.

The twin towers of the world trade center were destroyed with the blast of September 11, 2001, where about 3,000 people had lost their lives. A worldwide competition was held in April 2003 to design a memorial to the world trade center, where the Reflecting Absence, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker was chosen. The Empire State building is another enduring symbol of New York. It is the city’s tallest structure which is one of the most impressive engineering feats. It was built in 410 days and has been immortalized in many films, like King Kong. You can get a beautiful view of the city from the 86th and 102nd floors.

There are numerous museums it New York housing works of art from the masters of art. All lovers are sure to enjoy a visit to anyone of these museums. New York offers continental climate where you find cold winters and hot summers. Transportation is convenient with a choice of buses, trains and cars. Access to New York is possible through the numerous airports you have here. And for your communication sake, you can use any phone card or calling card from the various phone booths found here. These cards are found practically everywhere, making it easy and convenient for you to make your phone calls. Several prepaid calling card and phone card companies are available to call both to and from New York City.
