Sprucing Up Your Game Room

What to do, what to do? You’ve just moved into your new pad, and have been at your new job for 6 months. You’ve got money saved up to furnish your new place in style, which includes something you’ve always wanted – a Game Room.

Not just any game room, but one where you can escape; a place to relax and unwind after a busy day at work. A spot to not only watch the game and have a beer, but a place to play. This room will have it all.

A comfy chair or two for you and your friends, maybe a minibar and definitely a games table. But what kind? What type of table should you include in your new hideaway? You have several choices; you just need to decide which one you will buy.

First of all, you could choose the ever-popular pool table. Definitely a good investment, but is it what you really want? If you’re looking for some fast fun that anyone can enjoy, a pool table might not be the way to go. Pool games can be long, and may intimidate any guests who don’t have a lot of experience with a cue.

Or you could consider a ping-pong table. These are fun, but do tend to take up a lot of room. Of course, one of the benefits of ping-pong is that you can play alone (with one side of the table raised) or with 3 other friends. It does lend itself well to allowing multiple players. However, they do take up a lot of room, and space is definitely a consideration.

A football table is another option, and there’s not really much to say against them. They do take time to break in and if not cared for properly can actually be difficult to use. But they are rousing fun for any age.

Finally, you could consider an air hockey table? They are available in a large range of sizes (the really small ones can even be used on a tabletop), and are very reasonably priced.

A game of air hockey is short, played until one person reaches 7 points. It is easy to learn and fast-paced enough to keep even the most distractible person interested. Air hockey is a fun game that beginners and experts alike seldom tire of.

Because air hockey tables come is such a variety of sizes (just under 4-feet long for the tabletop models and up to 8-feet for a professional table), there is sure to be a table out there that will fit into your new room.

Another good thing about air hockey is that once you’ve bought your table, mallets and pucks, there’s nothing else to purchase (unless your dog eats a puck or two…). No chalk to buy, no cue sticks to replace, no ping pong balls to dig out from under the couch. Yes, air hockey is a game that just keeps going. No matter what type of game table you choose to invest in, you’ll reap the benefits in fun for years to come.

Pool table lights come in a variety of styles, shapes, colors and motifs, so that you can taylor your look to the pub of your choice. How To Use Game Tables To Bridge The Generation Gap
Close your eyes and imagine with me for a moment. Wait. Don’t close your eyes. (How else could you read this) Pretend that it’s Thanksgiving and all your family has gotten together. Your grandparents are there; your mom and dad, your sisters, their husbands and kids, your brother and his girlfriend, even your cousins and your favorite aunt and uncle have flown in from Cincinnati. Everyone is at your house, and all the preparations have come together. The house is beautiful, the turkey is in the...

Air Hockey Fact or Fiction
I have always been a fan of air hockey tables and the game played on them. While they have, throughout memory, been something I’ve seen nearly everywhere – church basements, arcades, bowling alleys and college dorms – I’ve sort of always taken them for granted. But what is the truth behind them? Is what I know fact or fiction? Air hockey tables have been around since God. --- This is fiction. The game of air hockey, along with the table on which to play it is only about 30 years old. Invented...

How to Have Fun On a College Student s Budget
All work and no play makes Jack (or Jill!) a very dull boy. Even the most conscientious of students needs to cut back on the studying and have some fun every once in awhile. But for most college students, money is a major obstacle to cutting loose and having a night on the town. Once you’ve convinced yourself you’ve earned it – maybe you just aced a tough Biology test, made it into an elite intern program, or passed a semester you thought you’d actually fail – it’s time to have some fun....

Did You Know
How much do you know about air hockey? While air hockey tables seem to be popping everywhere from homes to arcades, I bet you’ll be surprised by what you don’t know about the game. For example, did you know that once you score a goal, your opponent only has ten seconds to get the puck back into play on the air hockey table? If he or she delays, then a foul is charged (unless a timeout has been called…more on that later). Another interesting rule in the game is that you have 7 seconds to take...

Games for the Whole Family
Oh no, another rainy day? Too much snow outside, and too many children inside? Too many mosquitoes? Well then, it’s time to stay in and have fun! There’s so much you and your family can do together inside that needn’t include getting hot, frostbite, or bitten. You can head to the kitchen and whip up your family’s favorite cookies or pancake recipe. Take turns adding ingredients and everyone can be involved. You could curl up around the fire and read books or do puzzles. You can even get out...

For the Love of the Game
Once upon a time, way back in 1972, a hockey fan named Bob Lemieux invented the game of air hockey. Not content to just watch the sport he loved so well, he came up with a way to emulate his sport in the comfort of his own home. Not bad for a brawny jock, right? According to some sources, however, a team of 3 engineers (Phil Crossman, Bob Kenrick, and Brad Baldwin) who were also employed by Brunswick Billiards worked out invented the game back around 1969, and many consider them to be the...

Guys and Games What s the Deal
Every guy out there likes to play. Some might even say that we never grow up. Those little boys simply morph into bigger boys who still like to play and have toys. The toys just get bigger (or smaller – think Blackberries) and more expensive – think boats, motorcycles, etc... So what’s the appeal? Why do guys have this persistent need to play? First of all, playing games, fiddling with electronics, or driving high-speed vehicles is a way to burn off our stress. Most of the guys I know are...

How Even The Most Hopeless Nerds Can Be Cool
Everyone knows a nerd. He’s the guy who is way too into Star Wars. He can talk about computers only using letters. He doesn’t have the best fashion sense, and may even have a slightly pale complexion from long hours indoors. But even this guy wants to be cool. Who doesn’t? I mean, no one actually goes out with the intention of looking “nerdy”. For those who do, it seems that the way they look and the things they talk about aren’t priorities that match up to each other. I’m not suggesting,...

Showcasing Your Travel Experience at Home
If you are anything like me, you love to travel! I always look forward to going to different places and seeing new things. Age is no obstacle. Most retirees take advantage of that time to see the world. Some are not as fortunate as time runs out before they get the chance. There are some fortunate young people who have the opportunity to see at least a portion of the world. Anyone who is able to travel has interesting stories to tell. There is a lot to be learned from cultural experiences;...
