7 Simple Ways to Guard Your Health

Your health is an investment, and like all investments, you have to protect it to reap the benefits. Most people think itâs a complicated to actually do that, but in reality itâs a matter of minor adjustments. Here are 7 simple ways to guard your health.

Soak up some sun⦠but with limits

Soaking up the sun during the early morning allows you to get some much needed vitamin D, which help protect you from certain diseases. However, too much can increase the risk of cancer and skin aging. Itâs best to avoid sun exposure between 10 am to 3 pm, when the ultraviolet rays are high. If you canât avoid it, put on some sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Also, look for a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.

Subtle exercises

You donât have to suddenly become a gym junkie or a sporty person to be fit to look after your health. You can start from scratch or even include it in your daily routine. Try by walking regularly. Even a 30 minute walk a day will significantly improve your health. When carrying stuff, like groceries or things from the office, do some bicep curls. Make even the most ordinary errand an exercise. These subtle exercises can become a habit, and will motivate you to do more, hopefully in the gym or on the court.

Give it a stretch

As you get older, flexibility decreases. This makes you prone to accidents, since your joints and muscles become stiffer. Regular stretching keeps you flexible. Do stretching exercises first thing in the morning, even for a few minutes. Perform stretches before doing exercises or other daily tasks. You can do static stretchesâholding a body part in place for several secondsâor dynamic stretching, doing stretches while moving. Some dynamic stretches include lunges, twists and back stretches.

Wear it smartly

Clothes are not just for covering up or for you to look good. Nowadays, dressing smart is the trend. Wear clothes which can help your body perform better, even in everyday situations, protect you and make you look good in the process. Sounds too good to be true? Technical clothes provide all that. The specialized apparel can be used for both workouts and everyday use. Expect sweat-wicking, circulation-improving, anti-bacterial properties from high quality technical clothes like the ones from Reebok. You can know more about Reebok apparel by visiting a trusted online shop.

No to processed food

Itâs so easy to grab a burger, hotdog sandwich or open canned foods. Itâs convenient and fast. Unfortunately, itâs not good for you. Processed foods are packed with chemicals, including sodium, preservatives and saturated fat. Eating processed foods have also been linked to the increased risk of certain cancers. So itâs best to skip processed food. If you donât have time for a home cooked meal, prepare it in the evening or during your free time.

Less sugar, less salt

A diet high in sugar and sodium is headed for a ton of health issues. Hypertension, Type II diabetes, heart disease, are just some of the illnesses youâll battle against. Cut your salt intake by using this simple trickâremove the salt shaker from your table. At the same time, throw away those sodium-filled snacks, like potato chips, from your pantry. In terms of sugar, reduce your intake by substituting it with honey or brown sugar.

Grab a drink

Hands down, water is still the best drink for you. It cleans and refreshes your body, and even helps you lose weight. So donât shy away from having an extra drink of water. If you want more flavor, try fruit-infused water or a fresh fruit juice. But stay away from the store-bought juices. They are usually packed with sugar and preservatives. Green tea is another good drink. So its fresh coconut water. Put away the diet soda, though. Diet soda may not have calories, or even sugar, but according to research, your body craves more sugar and other foods after drinking it.
