Boost Your Self Esteem With These 4 Tips

Most people need a little self-esteem boost every now and then.

Self-esteem is all about how we feel within. When we have low self-esteem, we can feel anxious and depressed, we can be more prone to tolerating abusive behavior and relationships, and we can fail to live up to our full potential.

There can also be cons to self esteem. For example, when a person's sense of self worth is much too high, it can be expressed as arrogance or what is termed 'narcissism', and this can bring problems. Such individuals can find it difficult to accept and learn from their own mistakes and can develop a false sense of entitlement.

Developing a balanced level of self-esteem is key. For some people, a healthy, high self-esteem comes naturally. But for others, keeping a healthy self-esteem takes some effort. Check out these tips to give your self-esteem a kick start.

1. Draw up a list of your best qualities - For some individuals with diminished self-esteem, even contemplating making a list of their good qualities seems like an overwhelming task, but it can be really helpful for boosting self-esteem. If you find this task challenging, consider what others say about you. What positive compliments have you ever been given? Start with those and then expand on this. Jot your good qualities down using "I" and the present tense. For example, "I am kind and considerate."

2. Regular affirmations - Take another look at the list you made. Select your favorite qualities to use to do daily affirmations. Take those statements and write them down on notecards and stickie notes. Put the stickie notes where you will view them everyday, such as on your computer screen, bathroom mirror, or fridge. When you see them, take a minute to repeat them over to yourself. Put notecards in your bag or wallet where you are certain to come across them on a regular basis. When this happens, take a moment to read them to yourself a few times. After a while you can switch some of your best points for some of the other qualities on your list.

3. Gain some perspective - People often don't talk about their challenges, failures, and struggles in life, but that's not because they don't encounter them. How we decide to tackle these things will directly affect levels of self-esteem, joy and success. The most successful and confident people in life aren't those who have had few dificulties and challenges, they are people who have viewed them as simply a part of life and have pushed ahead anyway, learning as they go. Your failures don't mean that you are a failure, they just mean you need to reassess the situation and your approach to it and tackle it from a different angle.

4. Make yourself the priority - A large part of boosting your self-worth is accepting you are worthy of your own love. Respect yourself enough to make time for yourself. Take care of yourself when you're encountering a tough time. Say 'no' when you need to and don't feel bad about it. Make your needs clear to other people and ask for what you need. (If you find it difficult to say 'no', then look for some assertiveness training, or check out a book on the subject.)

Use these 4 simple tips and you will boost your self-esteem. Above all, remember to be kind to yourself and give yourself just as much love as you give to the important people in your life. You absolutely deserve it!

5 Ways To Boost Your Self Esteem

Those with long lasting issues of low self-esteem know only too well that it is not something you grow out of, but something that sits in the subconscious mind and continues to...

Being underweight can be a real challenge for those who struggle to gain weight but just can't seem to do so. In modern society, with so many suffering from obesity and overweight, precious little attention is given to those who have the opposite problem. Hair Loss Hair Loss Treatment
Losing your hair can seriously affect a person's self image and self esteem. With men, however, it is something that is more or less accepted as a natural occurrence by society at large. In fact, about fifty percent of the general population experience normal hair loss by the time they reach 50 years old. We may not like it, but sooner or later half of us are forced to accept it. Hair loss in women, however, is thought of in an entirely different context. Male pattern baldness is an all...

Levels of the Mind Why Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Work
As a psychotherapist who uses hypnosis I must admit that sometimes it feels like I have two separate people in my big reclining therapy chair at the same time. The two certainly are related and they seem to know quite a bit about each other. They appear to have passed through some remarkably similar experiences. But they just don't seem to communicate very well with each other. One person is entirely rational and logical; they analyze and compare, measure and debate. When I speak with these...
