Marketing Your Stallion Online

It used to be that it was simple to put your stallion out to stud. An advertisement in the right magazine could do it, or perhaps you knew someone who knew someone else. The fact is, today, the horse breeding world is a lot more spread out than it was and you will find that the old methods simply don't work as well as they used to.

Today, the best way to find some prospects for your stallion is to get online, and you'll find that as long as you remember a few things, you'll have no trouble at all when it comes to finding prospects.

When you are looking to market your stallion online for breeding purposes, the first few stops you should make are the stallion registries. There are a number of stallion registries online, and when people are looking to breed their mares, they often head to these sites first. These sites are great because you can upload all the information about your stallion up and then wait for answers to come in. Unlike posting an ad in a periodical or magazine, you don't have to renew and for the most part, these sites are free!

Remember that when you put your stallion's information up that you should be as thorough as possible. There may be as many as 3000 other stallions on the site, and you need to do your best to make your own stand out. Fill out all the information as thoroughly as you can, and make sure that you post a good picture. More on that in another article.

Online ads that have pictures are significantly more likely to get responses than ones that don't due to the fact that there is simply more good information there. Many equine classified ad services will allow you to post your stallion's sire and pedigree as well, so make sure that you put up that information for the browsers.

The really premium services give you full page ads and a link back to your site so you can promote your business or farm. Remember it is getting the most traffic and exposure for a fair price.

Your stallion, in this sense, is a commodity, and you owe it to yourself to make sure that he gets the attention that he needs in order to be successful. One way to do this is to post ads on internet forums and messages boards. This type of media is a little bit more fleeting than the registries, but they will bring you to the attention of people on the forum.

The forums and message boards along with equine specific social communities are the new type of equine marketing that is springing up, and not only can you make friends and learn interesting things on them, you can also make important contacts as well, so don't neglect this important resources.

When you are trying to market your stallion online, do not neglect the fact that he should have a place on your website as well. This is where you can put down his vital statistics, his genealogy, any awards he's won, and the notable foals that he's produced. Make sure that you state up front that he is available for breeding and what stud fees you charge; this is an important way to get his information out there and circulating.

Horse breeding has changed a great deal in even the most recent years, so make sure that when you are looking to put your stallion out to stud that you consider all of the options.
