If you are considering starting a network marketing business, or are already involved in one, one of the most important things for you to recognize and accept is that creating a successful network marketing business is not automatic, quick and effortless. Get rid of that idea. Don't even allow it to enter your mind. Those kinds of expectations are the reason for so much failure and ill repute in the industry. Yes it is true that network marketing has the potential to make you financially independent in a relatively short period of time, say two to five years, if you conduct it as a you would any serious business.
One of the great things about network marketing is that it is a business that is more easily managed than most other businesses. It is more people friendly than many other business. It is relatively easier to start up and maintain than most other businesses, and so on. Therefore it has become known as the every day person's business opportunity, so to speak. But a big problem with that is that most people aren't familiar with running any business, let alone a marketing and sales business.
Network marketing is not a particularly difficult business to operate compared to many others, but even so, some business acumen is required. This can be acquired and learned with the right attitude. But one big problem lies in the wrong attitude that too many people have when they become a network marketer. If you opened a small grocery store, you wouldn't just unlock the door, sit back and do nothing but wait for the cash to start pouring in. There would be a number of things that you would have to attend to, each day, in order for the business to prosper and grow.
Although a network marketing business may not require the same sort of attention as a grocery store, it nevertheless is a business and it requires certain things associated with running any business. Not the least of which are diligence, organization, planning, patience, and action.
Whenever you think about making money in a home based business, it is vital to remember that the most important word in the phrase, "home based business," is "business, because if you don't understand that this is a business, and it needs to be conducted as such, you are doomed to failure from the start, whether it's home based or not.
So remember that network marketing is a business. It is not effortless, automatic or about getting rich overnight. It is a constant, steady process that requires your long term commitment. When you develop this mindset, and conduct it as a business, then you have overcome one of the main barriers to your success.
