The thought of working from home in a network marketing business raises the curiosity of many people. The unfortunate way that many network marketing business opportunities have been advertised has led many to assume that it is a quick and easy deal that can lead to almost instant cash flow with very little effort or knowledge. Many attempt to become involved in network marketing not realizing that it is, after all is said and done, a business. Yes, people understand that it is called a home based business, but they don't understand the ramifications involved.
For example, if I want to start a home based network marketing business but I don't understand what a business is or does, then how am I going to build it and conduct it properly? Although this seems obvious it is a dilemma that too many aspiring network marketers face. So one of the first things that it is important to understand when you want to try network marketing is, what a real business is and does.
All real business involves some form of production, plus sales and marketing to one degree or another. A business provides consumable goods in the form of products or services that someone else values, needs and/or wants. A legitimate business involves the marketing and sale of those real products or services to an end consumer. Something of real or perceived value is produced, marketed, sold and consumed.
When people say that they hate to sell, they are speaking of one of the very foundations of owning a business. Selling and marketing goes on whether the business owner does it personally, it's done by word of mouth, or he hires others to do it for him. He must get his product or service known, he must attract customers and he must convince them to try what he has to offer.
Network Marketing happens to be a business about selling. That is why it is called network marketing.
So, when you think of starting a network marketing business, do you think of a business that involves the marketing and sale of consumable goods or services? Or do you think of a slick and easy scheme to get rich quickly? Sadly, this is how too many aspiring network marketers and network marketing detractors view this business. And the difference in how you think about it may be the primary difference between your success and failure.
If you understand what a real business is and does, and that you must conduct network marketing as a real business, then you have overcome one more barrier to your success.
