Dimmable LED driver with RF remote control

A dimmable LED driver is a driver that converts AC input to DC output for DC LED lights. In additional it has dimming input interface and output interface. Generally there are several input interfaces including RF wireless, DALI, DMX, 0/1-10V and Triac. The output interface is PWM.

There are two types of DC output, constant current and constant voltage. A constant current driver outputs a fixed DC current and variable voltage range, which is suitable for LED downlights, LED panels and LED wall washers with constant current input. A constant voltage driver outputs a fixed DC voltage and variable current range, which suitable for LED strips and LED ribbons with constant voltage input. The right driver shall be chosen according to the input type of your LED lamps.

A dimming input interface is the control signal that was sent to the driver by a control unit. The most common signal is 0/1-10V and resistor which have been widely used with low cost. Intelligent solutions are emerging nowadays including DALI, DMX and RF wireless. DALI and DMX has an advantage of long transmission distance, thus they are suitable for large lighting projects. RF is a wireless interface which is more suitable for smart home lighting control.

A dimmable driver with RF input interface is designed with a built-in RF receiver that receives the signal from transmitters. Different radio frequencies are available for RF interface, and the transmitter and receiver must have the same frequency. You have to choose the right one based on your country or area requirements.

The transmitters are RF remotes that send out signal to the driver. There are single color, dual color, RGBW remotes for corresponding dimmable drivers. The dimming output interface is sent by the driver to the connected LED lamps. PWM dimming is the most popular one.

There are many important parameters to be considered when choosing a dimmable LED driver. First is power factor, which is parameter that defines the power that does useful work. Second is efficiency, which defines how energy efficient a driver is. Both of them are the most important parameters. The higher power factor and efficiency a driver has, the better the driver is. PWM frequency is another important one that determines whether the driver has flickering and buzzing noise when dimming. Generally, a high frequency can lead to noise without flickering, and a low frequency can result in flickering but no noise.
