8 Best Foods to Help Control Your Blood Sugar

Maintaining a normal blood sugar is crucial if you already have diabetes. Both a low and high blood sugar is dangerous. If you donât have diabetes, a high blood sugar can cause several complications to your health. However, you donât have to grab your medicine stash, just chow down on these 8 best foods to help control your blood sugar.
1. Cinnamon. This sweet smelling spice has antioxidants. According to several studies, the spice, which is technically a tree bark, can improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar. One study showed that people who had type 2 diabetes who took the spice for 90 days, reduced their hemoglobin A1c almost double. Hemoglobin A1c is crucial in measuring and managing blood sugar levels. Cinnamon is usually added to desserts, but you can also us the spice for soups and even sauces.
2. Fatty Fish. Not all fat is bad for you. Some, like fatty fish, have lots of benefits. Salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines and anchovies should be on your meal list since they are high in omega-3. People with diabetes are prone to heart disease and regular consumption of Omega-3 reduces the risk of heart ailments.
3. Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Speaking of healthy oil, extra virgin olive oil should also be included in your food list. Cholesterol levels are often unhealthy when you have high blood sugar, olive oilâs oleic acid. EVOO also has antioxidants to help protect blood linings and your cells, as well as reduce inflammation.
4. Nuts. High in fiber and great for snacks, nuts can help manage your weight, and subsequently, your weight. Hazelnuts, macadamias, almond, walnuts and Brazil nuts are good choices.
5. Greek Yogurt. Eating a dairy is still possible if you want to lower your blood sugar. Your dairy of choice? Greek yogurt. Studies show that its probiotics help control blood sugar and decreases the chances of heart disease. Another advantage of Greek yogurt is its low carb content, incredibly high protein. This can help you feel full and lose weight.
6. Apple cider vinegar. A study showed that people who took two teaspoons before bed reduced their fasting blood sugar by six percent. Also, it can lower blood sugar response by 20 percent when you eat a meal with carbohydrates. However, you are acidic you can add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water. When your tummy gets accustomed to it, just add more vinegar.
7. Garlic. This bulb doesnât just keep vampires away, it also helps lower your blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. Add more garlic to your soups and other dishes.
8. Strawberries. One of the most nutritious fruits you can eat, strawberries have lots of antioxidants. One in particular, anthocyanins, which gives the berry its red pigment, is known to help improve heart disease risk and blood sugar. It also has lots of fiber but low in carbs.
As you can see, most of the foods are low-glycemic ones. Since being overweight is also linked to an increase in the chances of diabetes. Also, get enough sleep and lower your stress-levels.
