10 Diet Tips For Men To Prevent From Prostate Cancer

What is prostate gland and its complications?

Prostate gland play an important role in the male reproductive system. The glands are located underneath the bladder in front of the rectum. Their role is to carry the sperm. In men, sometimes the prostate gland becomes enlarged and cancerous causing severe health complications. The urine flows from the bladder via the urethra. Upon enlargement of the prostate gland, the flow of urine is blocked through the urethra. The cells of the prostate multiply resulting in its enlargement and at the same time putting more pressure on the urethra. As the urethra narrows, more pressure is required to pass out the urine. It starts contracting even when it contains small amounts of urine, causing a need to urinate frequently. Eventually, the muscles of the bladder losses its capacity to empty the bladder completely leading to health complications. In some cases, the cells of the prostrate becomes malignant causing prostate cancer. In both the conditions, surgery is required to remove the prostrate. Although the decision of surgery is taken depending on the severity.

What is Prostrate Surgery?

Surgery for partial or complete removal of the prostate is called a prostatectomy or prostrate removal surgery. It is required in cases like prostate cancer, enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
For the enlarged prostrate, prostrate removal surgery known as Transurethral resection of the prostate is carried out. In the surgery, the excess tissues of the prostrate are removed that blocks up the urine. TURP uses a combined visual and surgical instrument called the resectoscope. The resectoscope is inserted via the penis tip into the urethra. As the prostate surrounds the urethra, the excess tissues can be removed easily from here. This type of prostrate removal surgery is carried for men with severe urinary problems. TURP is known as the most effective treatment for an enlarged prostate. The procedure is minimally invasive causing fewer complications and a quicker recovery. The only risk with the procedure is chances of high bleeding. It is not recommended for men who take blood-thinning medications.

For prostate cancer, the prostrate is to be removed. It can be removed by a laparoscopic or Endoscopic surgery. In the laser surgery, a fibre optic scope is used to remove the tissues of the prostrate by incisions. In the endoscopic surgery, a long, flexible tube with a light and lens is used to remove the parts of the prostate gland. It is less invasive with no side effects.
