Leyland Cypress Trees

Gardening Will Be Simple With These Tips Gardening is a hobby enjoyed by many and is considered to be extremely relaxing. People love planting their seeds and eventually cultivating a luscious garden. While starting to garden for the first time can be intimidating, it becomes much easier if you have the right tips and tricks. This article contains advice about gardening. If you are planting vegetables, choose varieties that don't require processing in order to keep. For example, sweet potatoes and onions will keep for months as long as they are kept cool and dry, without any additional work on your part. This reduces the amount of time you have to spend after harvesting. Read the packages your seeds came in! Every seed is different. Some can be planted year round while others can only be planted at certain times. Some seeds need ten hours or more of sun a day, and others need much less. Before you impulse buy a seed package based off of the picture, take the time to know what you are getting into. Create a record journal for your garden. Keep track of when you planted your seeds, when they germinated, how many grow to full size, the yield, etc. You will have more knowledge about your plants and a good idea of how successful your methods are. Use this information for your next grow cycles. If you are going to be doing a lot of work in your garden very close to the ground, such as weeding or planting, use a garden stool or pad to protect your knees. This will make it easier to get back up again and move once you finish, and will also reduce bruising on your knees. Invest in a good pair of gardening gloves to protect your hands while working outdoors. Whether you are working with plants with thorns or with fertilizer, gloves can protect your skin from damage from both plants and chemicals. They also do a great job at protecting your hands from dirt or sap stains and make cleanup much easier. Make your own kneeling pad. Working on the ground can be very hard on your knees. A kneeling pad provides much needed cushioning, providing comfort as well as protecting your joints. If you do not have one on hand, simply find a piece of foam or an old pillow that is two to three inches in depth. Cover it with plastic wrap or place it in a plastic bag to protect it from dirt and moisture and enjoy comfortable cushioning while you garden. Use your used pantyhose in two beneficial ways for gardening. Wrapping and knotting up old soap slivers in pantyhose allows you to scrub stubborn ground in dirt off your hands, without needing expensive garden soaps. You can also use pantyhose to bag up your squashes and melons as they grow to give them more support on the vine, and the sun can still get through hosiery. Think about adding some berry-producing evergreens to your landscaping. This gives your garden a bit of a "splash" of color, even in winter when everything is nearly colorless. These plants can help you get some color during the winter months: Winterberry, Common Snowberry, American Holly, and American Cranberrybush. Know when to harvest your vegetables at precisely the right time. There is a specific time to pick every sort of vegetable in order to maximize its taste and cooking utility. Many vegetables are best when picked young; baby peas are a prime example. The opposite is true of tomatoes. They taste their best if you allow them to ripen on the vine as long as possible. Educate yourself about the best time to harvest your veggies. Create a non-toxic treatment for black spots on roses. Combine one tablespoon of baking soda, one tablespoon of vegetable oil and one drop of liquid detergent in one gallon of water and shake. Fill a spray bottle with this mixture and when the humidity rises, spray your roses down - making sure to get both sides of the leaves. You can create a great English garden by mixing types and sizes in one bed. Using plants of all the same kind or size, can result in a boring, and unoriginal garden. Make liquid fertilizer from your compost. By adding a little bit of water to the biological decay, you can harvest the nutrient rich concoction and spread it on your plants in an efficient way. By fermenting the compost with about an equal amount of water can give you a great form of liquid fertilizer that will help promote growth without negative side effects or toxic run-off. Try raising organic garlic. Plant single garlic cloves during the spring or fall seasons in soil that is moist and well-drained. Plant them two inches into the soil with the ends up, and leave four inches between each clove. Cut the green garlic shoots and use them as a substitute for chives or scallions. The garlic is ready to be picked when the tops turn brown. Dry the bulbs well in the sun for several days to harden the skin. Store the dried bulbs loosely or in bunches in a dark, cool area. If you want to have an organic garden, you should make sure you do not have any need for bug sprays. Maintaining healthy soil will help immensely with pest management. Healthy soil will help to produce healthy plants. Healthy plants are better able to withstand insect damage and disease. Keep your fertilizers and pesticides organic. It may seem like an odd fact, but residential gardeners use a ton more chemicals than actual farmers do. This causes big problems for vegetation, fish, and wildlife. Urban areas are polluted enough without the chemical dumping. Do your part and avoid chemicals at all costs. As was discussed at the beginning of this article, many people love to garden and it is considered to be a popular hobby. Although gardening for the first time might appear to daunting to some, it becomes easy if you are equipped with the right information. Apply this article's advice and you'll be well on your way to having a beautiful garden.
