The Benefits of Geothermal Power For Air Cooling

Geothermal energy is defined as the heat generated in the earth’s core since the planet’s origin. This energy originates from radioactive decay of several minerals under the earth’s crust and also from the solar energy absorbed by the earth's surface. The energy at present, is used in industries, commercial enterprises and even in households for various functions and is considered ecologically viable as it uses minimum exhaustible resources of the earth. The thermal efficiency of this energy is also high as little or no energy conversion is needed during its use.

In recent times, geothermal energy gains ground as it is being more and more used in heating and cooling of houses and offices. This process uses constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool houses and businesses with 40-70% less energy than conventional systems. While regular heating and cooling devices burn fuel or consume electricity, the geothermal energy uses a much lesser amount of electricity only to pump out heat from the earth and then directly utilize the heat energy for air heating or cooling.

Geothermal companies offer ground source heat pumps, for air cooling and heating purposes, which extracts heat from ground or groundwater, thus lowering carbon dioxide emissions and electricity bills and increasing ecological sustainability.

Ground source heat pumps : Mode of action

Air cooling and heating by ground source heat pumps is a procedure which is very much in vogue in the developed countries and is reaching a certain level of utilisation in developing nations as well. The constant heat of the earth, at about 10 feet under the earth’s surface, remains around 50°F, which is used by these pumps for the purpose. Air or anti-freeze liquids are usually pumped through the pipes which are buried underground and are re-circulated in the household or office building. In summer, the air or the anti-freeze liquid in the pipes of the ground source pumps extract heat from the building and takes it underground through the pipes, thus operating as air-coolers. During winter, it pulls the heat from under the earth’s surface and supplies warm air or water to the building.

The ground source heat pumps uses a closed loop principle of evaporation of water or liquid refrigerant (which boils at a lower temperature as compared to water and thus forms steam effectively), compression of the vapour formed and the subsequent condensation of the steam to water/liquid refrigerant for air cooling purpose.

Thus, in a nutshell, geothermal energy is a noble way of energy utilisation in the modern world. The merits of its use in the purpose of air cooling and heating are:

1. Geothermal energy, being a renewable source, can easily be used over and over again and thus lessens the risk of energy exhaustion in future.

2. Because of its sustainability and lesser degree of pollution (its use reduces carbon dioxide emissions in a large way), geothermal energy is regarded as ecologically viable source of energy.

3. This source of energy is cost-effective and energy-efficient, making it reliable for future uses.

With so many distinct reasons, there's no question of why geothermal energy is rising in popularity.

How Geothermal Can Be an Eco Friendly Energy Option
Geothermal power comes from energy stored within the earth itself to provide clean, renewable energy without contributing to climate change. It is more cost effective and scalable than wind turbines and solar panels and is much safer than nuclear fission. So when looking for an alternative to fossil fuels, give geothermal energy a chance. Imagine a future free of fossil fuels, a world where we are not shackled by oil or polluting our atmosphere by burning coal. With geothermal energy this...

Why Geothermal Energy is so Beneficial
As organic based fuels become more scarce, scientists are pushing for the research and development of green alternative fuel. A plethora of potential energy sources have been suggested: wind, solar, water, and nuclear to name a few. Although they are natural, not all are available globally 24/7. There is another option, one that is perpetual and found right under our feet: geothermal energy. The effects of coal and petroleum have left a sour taste in humanities mouth, which now seeks to find...

Invest in a New Energy Option With a Ground Source Heating System
Ground source heating systems use pumps to transfer heat to and from the earth to preserve a typical, pleasant indoor temperature. The earth maintains a constant temperature, regardless of the season, and that energy can be transferred into a proper heating and cooling source. These systems are cost efficient ways to provide heating and hot water sources to commercial and residential properties. What is Ground Source Heating? Ground source heating systems are energy and cost efficient ways to...

Utilising Ground Source Heat Pumps For Energy
Ground source heat pumps offer a relatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to use waste heat from the earth for heating and cooling both residential and commercial buildings. Initial set-up costs can be quite a bit higher than conventional air-source systems, but geothermal heat pumps offer substantially lower ownership costs over the long term. Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are systems that use the earth’s temperature to provide heating, cooling and hot water for commercial...

New Environmentally Friendly Energy Options For Heating Houses
The last few decades has seen a rapid growth in awareness of the environmental problems associated with burning fossil fuels to produce energy. The spread of alternative energy use has not been anywhere near as rapid. Many people have been prevented from switching to environmentally sound options by poor availability, insufficient efficiency and high prices of renewable energy systems. It has been particularly difficult for people to turn to environmentally friendly energy production in their...

New Ways to Heat Your Home Ground Source Heating
Harnessing geothermal activity is basically a simple process and has been used in many ways to warm households throughout the centuries. Most people think ground heat is produced by underground tectonic activity, but scientist believe it originates from radioactive decay of minerals in the bedrock as well as solar energy that is absorbed by the earth crust. Undoubtedly, the hottest regions are in areas close to tectonic plate boundaries such as Iceland or Japan, as well as areas where the...

Heat Pump and Ground Source Heating Funding Are You Eligible
The traditional methods of heating a home are fast approaching a point where they are becoming non-viable. The world's supply of fossil fuels is dwindling, and the costs of heating and cooling a home are ever increasing. Smart forward thinking individuals are becoming more and more interested in renewable sources of power, heat, and light. Two of the most discussed and innovative technologies to date are Air Source Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps. These two styles are heating are very...

Energy Options For Home Investigating Air Source Heat Pumps
In the winter, an air source heat pump uses the air from outside to heat the inside of a home. Through the process of refrigeration, heat can be extracted from outside air with a temperature as low as 40 degrees farenheight. The pump has a refrigeration system that is composed of a compressor and two copper coils, in which liquid refrigerant continuously flows. While heating, the liquid refrigerant extracts heat from the cold, outside air and forces it into the home. Many air source heat pumps...

How to Manage Defined Benefit Pensions Risk Using Pfaroe
Defined benefit pensions risk management is relative to a pension plan. The plan will specify a monthly benefit for the employee. That said, the benefit is a pre-determined amount which is calculated according respective of a certain formula. The remaining content provides detail as to how the benefit is determined and subsequently how the risk is managed using management tools like Pfaroe. Generally a defined benefit pension is calculated based on an employee's earnings history, the length of...

Moving House What to Do and When
Moving can be a stressful time. Organizing your move can reduce the stress and make your move more pleasant. Arrange to have your electric power and other utilities disconnected and transferred to your new home. Organize all your possessions in to neatly labeled boxes. Take one last look around the old place. Call the movers and then sit back, relax and get ready for your new home! You've finally managed to save enough money to be able to move out of your small one bedroom flat on the...
