Who Is Coming?
When you begin planning your family reunion on Cape Cod the first thing you need to do is figure out who is invited and who is coming. Because every person at a family reunion has their own family, it doesn't take long to have a guest list 300 people long. Of course, it all depends on how much extended family there is, but you may have to invite some distant branches out of courtesy regardless of "complex" personal feelings involved within parts of the family.
Weathering your Family Reunion
The next thing to consider is the time of year. If you are looking at an outdoors family reunion on Cape Cod then you are going to want to look at the warmer months of June, July, August and September. The average daily temperatures on Cape Cod range from about 65 degrees to 70 degrees, with the warmest month being July. May can also be an option with temperatures ranging from a low of 45 degrees to a high of 65. During the summer months of July and August you are probably going to see temperatures in the 70s to 80s. High 90s and extreme humidity are very rare on Cape Cod. The great thing about this time of year is that the beaches are in full swing and the water is warm for swimming, boating and fishing. You will want to make sure everyone is prepared to dress for cool nights, however. This time of year is great for a family reunion on Cape Cod because the kids will play outside and on the beach and the adults can spend their time chatting and catching up.
Where Is Everyone Going to Stay?
Depending on the number of guests that you are going to have you will want to do your best to find accommodations that allow everyone to stay near each other as you are going to want to be close by for dining and evening events. There are several options when it comes to Cape Cod accommodations. You can choose from a wide variety of house rentals, cottage rentals, hotels, motels, resorts, Beds & Breakfasts, waterfront lodging, and condos. Because the best time of the year for a Cape Cod family reunion is in the summer months you will want to make your reservations as early as possible. When you are considering accommodations you will also want to take space into consideration. Try not to pack too many family members in too tight of a space. This is a recipe for disaster when family is together for too long. You will also need to consider bathroom accessibility.
Herding the Relatives
Getting around can be an interesting challenge as well. If you are planning many activities away from your lodging then you may consider renting minivans so that the whole family can travel together. This also cuts down on gas and time. Many people will also probably have personal cars and rental cars as well depending on how far they are traveling from. Carpooling to various places for fun is often one of the easiest ways of getting around.
Keeping Busy on the Cape
Cape Cod has numerous attractions that the whole family can enjoy. From the beach and water sports such as whale watching, fishing and boat charters to cruises and guided tours. Adults will also have no problem finding scenic places to hang out and catch up or reminisce on old times. Children always love the beach and anywhere there is a swimming pool, so you should definitely keep that in mind. The older generation may want to take advantage of the golfing, museums and nature explorations on Cape Cod.
With everything there is to do for the whole family you will have no problem finding plenty of activities to keep busy during your family reunion on Cape Cod.
