The Benefits Of Sub Floor Ventilation

Copyright (c) 2015 Matt Reardon

Moisture build up underneath flooring is very common in many homes. The basements or sub floor areas are among the places that are fond of getting excessive build up of moisture. This problem is mainly caused by inadequate, old or no damp proofing method in the home.

A building or home with the excessive moisture build up faces a risk of being damaged especially in the areas that are made of wood. The damage is made by termites and other things that are attracted to the damp areas. Mould and mildew also grow in moist and dark areas. These may also cause a huge damage to a home. The flooring will begin to warp and the tiles will be lifted up. It is quite expensive to repair these areas all the time.

Does Sub Floor Ventilation Have Any Benefits?

Here Are The Benefits Of Setting Up Sub Floor Type Ventilation:

1. Good Health

Moist air when inhaled tends to set off allergic reactions and causes respiratory illnesses. This is how the chain works; Damp or moist air encourages the growth and multiplication of mould. Condensation takes place and the liquid made in the process provides a brilliant environment that boosts the growth of fungi. Mould then produces substances that if inhaled, induce asthma attacks to the asthmatic people. Toxic substances released by mould irritate the lungs and affects the functionality of the nervous system.

2. Odour-free Homes

Constant circulation of clean airs in your house ensures that you always have fresh air to breath. You will not have odours from mould and mildew inside your house.

3. Warm Floors

If the Heat Recovery Ventilation System you are using is installed under the floors, it warms up the house. This makes it comfortable to walk barefoot around the house especially during the winter season.

4. Wood Lasts Longer

When wood comes into contact with water of moisture build up, it tends to absorb it and then it rots. Rotten wood weakens thus becoming a threat to you and your household because when stepped on, it gets damaged completely. Termites also invade damp wood. They eat up the wood to the wood thus destroying it. They do this out of site and by the time you are realizing it, the damage is usually beyond control.

5. Dry Floors

The upper and the lower parts of the floors are always kept dry. Without sub-floor-type ventilation, floors are always wet and cold.

6. Protects Your Investment

If you have a home, ventilation will help you protect your home from the damages caused by moisture build up. The flooring, if wooden, will last for a long time. Hence, even if you consider selling your home, you can be assured that you will get buyers.

These are the benefits you get from the sub-floor-type ventilation. You can avoid the health risks and unpleasant smells if you install a ventilation system into your home. If you are intending to buy a home, consider one that has enough vents to help in the circulation of air.
