But today I was just a little pissed off and wanted to blow off a little steam. You see my situation is that I have been unemployed for over a year now. I am rather disappointed to say that I am 49 years old, single (Of course) and I share a 40-year-old mobile home with my 81-year-old Mother. I donít own an automobile or a bicycle, roller skates, or uni-cycle.
I have been drawing unemployment for the last 13 months, and it is about to run out. My Mother and myself are like 30% of Americans, WE SMOKE! If you donít, well good for you! But we do. This is where my pissed off attitude comes into play. I was rather happy when Mr. Obama won our most recent presidential election. I thought after 8 years of a Republican running our country, or maybe I should say running it into the ground, that we needed change and Obama might just make some! Well I must say he has. Well, one change anyway, TAXES! Oh sure he promised to lower income taxes for lower income families, which he did. But since he has been in office a mere 13 months, the price of tobacco products has almost doubled. TAXES!
With the last increase pipe tobacco was excluded. Oh yeah, I did not mention that for the last 13 months we have resorted to rolling our own cigarettes. So with the increase in tobacco prices the tobacco companies started labeling the lower grade tobacco as pipe tobacco to keep the price lower. Now for the good news for all of you roll your own folks such as myself. As of Jan. 13th of this year it has been proposed in the dark corridors of Washington that pipe tobacco should be taxed like regular tobacco. Currently the tax of pipe tobacco is just over $2 a pound, which makes it about $30 for a one-pound bag total, cost. The new tax increase proposed would be; now hold on, it would be $24.78 a pound!! YES, JUST THE TAX! That would bring the cost up to about $55 a lb.
What the hell is this about? What country am I living in? Is America a place where the government can double the cost of a LEGAL product that Millions of Americans use every day? I guess so. Now I hear all the non-smokers saying, ďWell you donít have to smoke, it is your choiceĒ Aside from it not being completely my choice since I am an addict, it is also my choice to eat T-bone steak (Which I have not done for a long time)
Does that make it okay for the government to say ďPeople who like to indulge in eating prime meat should help pay off our deficitĒ and tax it also 100%? I guess if they choose to do so we canít do anything about it. It is not like these types of deals are out for a public vote. These are our elected officials taking it on themselves to decide what is best for our health and economy.
I donít even want to get started on all of the ďJOBSĒ we were supposed to start seeing, or even the ridiculous price of a new home in this country. I know if you are one of those people out there making a little ole $50,000 or $75,000 a year you may be able to afford one of the fixer-uppers on the market. And all of the folks bitching about taxing people who make over $300,000 a year WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT? Where are these poor unfortunate people? Personally I donít even know anyone who makes $6,000 a week! And if I did I would not feel sorry for them getting hit with a little 4% or 5% tax hike. My little family of two had a gross income last year of just over $16,000 with just about half going just to pay rent. I do have to mention the $125 a month in food stamps we get.
Well I am feeling a little better after this bitch session. I really donít give a ratís ass if anyone reads it. Americans donít really care about anyone except themselves anyway. I tested this recently by putting up a web page asking for donations from anyone who was a little better off than me. I guess there is no one out there that went to it that was doing any better. No one even dropped a $1 bill into the ole PayPal account. Sure lets send all our charity to Haiti so their corrupt gov. can steal it like they have been doing for years. I bet you are even one of those who see a homeless person on the street and have some smart ass remark to make, instead of having some compassion and just giving them a couple of lousy dollars that you would never miss.
Yes, this is America and I still have a little pride left for the old girl, but I am really starting to have my doubts. People donít read their bible like they used to, others donít want that kind of thing in our schools. God forbid we educate our children as God wanted us to. Letís just concentrate on teaching them how to make lots of money to give the government and the rest they can hoard for themselves. ďLove thy neighborĒ, just donít help him out when he finds himself on hard times. I really wish the people of this country would look around at the people around them, and if they surround themselves with wealthy people maybe they should take a look beyond that nose they keep stuck up in the air. People in this country need help too. What ever happened to the old adage ďcharity starts at homeĒ?
Okay. I feel better now. Not any better off financially, but better. Tell me. How do you feel? Are you pissed off a little too? Do you maybe feel a little guilty that you have not done more to help people around you? Just maybe you are one of the few who do care about your fellow man and have given when you could. Maybe you feel good about that? Well if you are one of those, God bless you and I wish you all of the blessings possible.
Did I write this with the motive of getting you to give me some money? Well to be honest, no. But now that I have calmed down from my earlier state of disgust, why not. Hell, I have no shame left. My Mother and myself will survive without help from anyone. But sometimes just surviving is a hard thing to deal with. I have the web page at http://donatingmakesyoufeelgood.yolasite.com you can go there if you want. I really donít have any faith that anyone will. But I do ask you this. If you donít help me out, maybe the next time you see that dirty homeless person on the street you can give them one of your precious dollar bills. Believe it or not it will be a bright spot in their usual sad and hopeless day.
