Saree Turns into a Canvas

Of late I have been planning for an online saree purchase, which made me explore various saree sites. There are quite a few of them that I came across but that is not what this article is all about. While exploring the sarees I came across some expensive ones, which intrigued me to further search for the costliest saree in India.
My search came to an end with the âVivah Patuâ saree with the paintings of Ravi Vermaâs inked on it. The saree crafted by the handloom weavers of Chennai Silk is priced at an astounding Rs. 3931625. The saree has found its way into the Guinness Book of World Record for being the costliest saree in the world. It was sold on 5th January 2008 and has reproductions of 11 beautiful paintings of Raja Ravi Verma on it. The main painting gracing the saree is that of a few women musicians, and the saree was completed in 4760 man-hours. The painting consisted of 16 colors and 64 shades. It is a result of the skills of 36 weavers who worked for a year and a half to complete it. The saree is flanked on all sides by valuable nagasu ornaments.
You must be wondering what makes this sarees priced so high? Well, it is for obvious reasons â the saree is an intricate work of precious stones and metals like gold, cat eye, diamond, topaz, platinum, pearl, silver, coral, ruby, emerald, sapphire and yellow sapphire. The saree weighs at 8 kgs and has exquisite embroidery work in gold, silver and platinum. The design was perceived by the director of Chennai Silk and was brought to life by the weaving team. The saree was ordered by a Kuwait-based businessman while the team had produced a similar saree for a Bangalore-based businessman a year ago.
Wondering whether it can really be worn? Yes, of course, it can be worn like any other patu saree. Once it drapes around your body, you can definitely carry it with ease. It is one of a kind saree that Chennai Silk produced keeping up to their innovative spirit after their famous perfumed sarees. This saree has everything â beauty, poise, diamonds, paintings all blended together to form what a womanâs heart could never desire. And it goes without saying that it definitely oozes tons of love.
This is proof enough that the craze for saree is on the rise by the day. In spite of a huge array of dresses available today, the demand for sarees has not ceased. Indian women are in love with their six yards of fabric that never fail to attract them. It is this fascination for sarees that inspire designers to come up with new ideas.
