It was unknown if the company conducted animal testing and the primary ingredients, other than water, were glycerin and mineral oil. The product was labeled as an “advanced body moisturizer”. But, glycerin and mineral oil are not advanced. Glycerin is a moisturizer. Mineral oil is not.
The most effective collagen and elastin enhancers do not contain either of those proteins, because they are of no benefit. Proteins contain long chains of amino acids, which cannot penetrate through the skin’s many outer layers to get to the layers that actually contain the fibers.
Mineral oil cannot penetrate, either. It causes greasiness and clogs the pores. The directions suggest that you use the product daily to prevent over-dry skin from returning. If you did use it daily, it would actually cause excessive dryness and your skin would only feel better immediately after you applied it.
Even if the proteins were beneficial, most collagen and elastin products only include a tiny amount. The ingredients on the label are listed according to the percentage that is found in the bottle, from highest to lowest.
In one of the collagen and elastin products that I looked at, the proteins were listed in the 25th and 26th positions, far below methyl and ethyl parabens, preservatives that are only permitted in cosmetics up to specific concentrations. The concentration limits are in place because they are common allergens and irritants that are toxic to many cells of the human body.
When you see the supposedly effective ingredients in collagen and elastin enhancers listed below the parabens, you know that there is not enough of the active ingredient to be effective. In my opinion collagen and elastin products are a waste of money and can cause adverse reactions.
The best collagen & elastin enhancers contain peptides, which are short chained amino acids that can penetrate the skin’s layers and be used by the cells. Some of the peptides are more moisturizing than anything else on the market. They enhance firmness by over 40% and improve circulation, reducing bags and dark circles under the eyes.
There are many active ingredients in the most effective creams and lotions, but the key ingredient is called Functional Keratin. 95% if the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, is composed of keratin containing cells. The peptide has been shown to stimulate the production of new cells and fibers, unlike collagen and elastin products, which have never been shown to do anything.
Look for all natural creams that are free of artificial preservatives and added fragrances. You don’t need to expose yourself to an adverse reaction, or a long-term health problem, in order to get effective collagen and elastin enhancers. You just need Functional Keratin and other nourishing ingredients.
