Age Gap in Husband and Wife

Age has a great importance in choosing someone to marry. In the general social custom, the bride is younger than the groom. But many times this ritual is not followed the western culture. But in the Indian culture, this rule is followed almost strictly. If the parents cannot manage someone older than their girl, they go for the same age. It is more than rare to find a girl marry someone younger than her in this region. But now days, some exceptions are found in the higher society.

From a very long time the standard age difference is maintained between the bride and the groom. The groom is usually older than the bride by few years. In old time, the difference was by many years in many cases. But now the difference comes down to a couple of years. Same year marriage is also available these days. In the present society, the free mixing between boys and girls is growing rapidly. This starts the love affair between them. Most of the cases this affair is build between two classmates. Which leads to a same age relationship and if there is a marriage, it would be a same age marriage. Although loving relationship was not accepted in the society in recent years, it is growing fast response to the parents. Also parents are thinking in different ways than before. Where before, parents didnt care much for the protest of their son or daughter, they are not doing so now. Instead they are giving their children the freedom to select their own future life partner.

There are few scientific and social facts behind this age difference. According to the scientists, women are prepared for marriage before men. There are some biological factors that make girls ready to marry at very early age. Girls also get mature than the boys in earlier age. To gain same maturity, there should have an age difference. Also boys get the maturity to take response of a family much later than the girls. For all of this reason, it is a social system to be the groom older than the bride. There is another reason for being the groom older. As the man of the house, the groom is responsible to earn money. But it is not possible to work at early age. On the other hand the wife is responsible for household activities, which can be learned at very early age.

Even it is used to in western culture and some higher society of Indian culture to marry a younger guy it is not well supported by science to make a perfect future generation. The society also does not support it even though there is no law against it. For the normal average people, older groom and younger bride is the most common gesture.
